As you know HDD wont be bundled directly with PS3. Unlike XBOX360 ( 20 GB detachable HDD included ).

But this is a huge problem for PS3, for the following reasons :
1/ Less MMORPGs, and less online games.
2/ Games cant be designed with HDD in mind ( a la fable on xbox1 for example ) or for example using personal music and songs on games a la GTA on PC...
3/ we cant save our games to HDD, and we will need to buy memory sticks, which is not practical, and make ps3 a more expensive video gaming system.
4/ Online gaming experience and services will be better on xbox360, because not everyone has HDD on ps3, and this will result in less online applications on ps3.

yes yes we know but it'll make ps3 wayy too expensive, even more than it is already.

I prefer HDD rather than 2 additional gigabit port switchs, and 4 additional USB2 ports, and additional memory stick ports...etc
what about you ?

i would prefer an onboard webserver so i can host my pictures and share them on tah internet

I wish I had a GigE backbone so that my network storage would kick even more ass. I would've been happy if this were the implementation on both systems.

I'm not very worried about the potential loss of HDD caching. IMO it's overrated especially when the HDDs that are going into these boxes are probably leftover ATA 100s.

Anyway - I don't think A automagically leads to B in the situations you mentioned. MS has already satsted that its HDD is not needed for online functionality, thus it's going to be less used than anticipated.

We'll see I guess...

Oh for christ's sake...

3Gbit ethernet ports will NEVER in a million years offset the price for a bloody HDD.

What's keeping PS3 expensive is the chips, BlueRay and the Ram. That constitutes the bulk of cost of it, everything else is like little crumbs to Sony.

So, you can't say "i'd take the ethernet ports off and put a HDD instead!!" i mean that's just ignorant.

Instead of saying "Playstation 3" on it, it should be cut down to "PS3", and then add the HDD instead.

fuoad - you need to calm down a little. One thread your aying XB360 is doomed, and the next your saying PS3 is hugely disadvantaged, while mentioning on a third thread that Nintendo are on their way out.

Besides 3 Gig E ports plugged into 3 nics on the same or different machines could theoretically give you a 30x speed increase over an ATA-100 hdd. Granted, you'd have to feed those from whatever's in your PC(s).

Heh, sound much like a good old friend of ours who unfortunately left us months ago.... err..

Maybe if they took a couple buttons off the controller it would be more affordable?!

It really is not as easy as subtracking ports to add the HDD. The HDD is in the realm of $25-$40 and WONT decrease in price quickly. Ports are much cheaper, and even if initially a design pain/expense they will come down in price and time (and my guess is the PSthree will remove many alltogether).

Sony wants larger drives (presumably for video editing and TiVo like functions).

And finally Sony is going with a Linux OS. My guess is a user friendly OS wont be ready by Spring 2006.

I think the only thing where the hdd is a must is online games.
Online gaming without security patches to prevent cheats is pointless. As long as their is an option for hdd and sony makes the hdd a must for online games I do not see any real problem.

Hdd for as cache is propably not need if game developers do their homework and prevent random access as much as possible.

they can install patches on server side
there is no reason actually for an onboard harddisk.
you can have xboxlive like features on the server(SONY ? ) side where every profile is stored on your remote space on the server

It's my feeling that HDD is bundled in EU to bypass the game-console tax.

They were talking about doing that with PS2, and in the end, the HDD was never released at all in here!!

If the HDD comes out when PS3 comes out, things will be easier than the mess they did with PS2.

Still not an ideal scenario in my opinion to divide the audience right from the very beginning.

Enough with the doomsayer threads please. Next we'll be hearing that plagues of locusts o'er the land will striketh useth downeth because the one console's corner are round whereas the others' are squared.
