The Xbox 360's biggest advantage is Xbox Live. It's the one thing they have that's far above the competition. Online gamers will buy the Xbox 360.
Though probably true, we haven't any details on PS3's online solution other then it'll be more Live! like. It might turn out XB360 hasn't such an advantage in that area when PS3 launches.

I know one of the reasons Xbox did good in Europe after the dramatic dump in price was the bundles MS gave. 2,3 games for "free" wasnt very uncommon and drove sales. The other thing is the warez players and they are VERY common. Theres tons of modders and stores that fix the latest and puts in bigger HDD, actually i think that played the biggest role.

Well i find it hard to believe that "stores putting a bigger HDD in the Xbox" is what drove sales, everything considered.
In the UK at least, what drove the Xbox was Halo. Halo Halo bloody Halo everywhere.

Yeah of course it was Halo that drew the train. It is just what i have observed with friends etz to make me draw the conclussion i did. How wrong or right i am i have no idea but i def saw a trend with the mod-community and bundles.

The mod community is definately large. I remember in the old days, i had friends with tens of PS1 games, none of them was original. They only bought a PS1 when they could chip it and only because they knew they could get pirate games for a tenth of the original price. Disgusting. As if games weren't expensive enough without people stealing, driving prices up even more...

Ya, and it's more than just an "upgraded hd" it's the abilitiy to have a media centre, play old genesis, snes and nes games, a free DVD player if they haven't bought the dongle, and of course the abilitiy to rip games to the HDD.

It would be interesting to see the numbers.

x-bscene has about 300,000 members, most of those are probably modded.

Then there's the friend factor, I've personally modded out 5 xboxes over the years for buddies. Add in all the mod shops around the world and there's gotta be a signifigant percentage there...

Anyways, back on track, lets flip the discussion, what big-name exclusives have Sony managed to retain?

- Devil May Cry
- Metal Gear Solid
- Grand Turismo 4

They may have lost GTA, and they may have lost FF as exclusives, those 2 franchises were the majority of their punch IMO.

Yes, and the funny thing is that im sort of a "niche" player that loves games the friends hate and so on. I dont like having 200 games just for the sake of having it.
The most games i play now is actually many i find in "garbage" cans or what you call it, i dont mind paying like 10Euros(translated) or 20Euros.
Actually that reminds me of i must get Killzone, some store sold it for 10Euros hope they have the offer left.

I'm not to sure about GTA but i'm certain that the numbered Final Fantasy's (Offline) will still be exclusive to the PS3. Nothing has really shown that Offline FF's will be ported or made for the 360. Except for FF 11 (Online) being ported over to the 360. The statment alone that Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy will stay with the Playstation due to console specific things is pretty much SquareEnix confirming it.

Also, what I get from SquareEnix is that their really more interested in the ONLINE aspects of the 360. They don't really seem interested with even making an Offline FF or DQ. Maybe another franchise though...

Im fairly sure that if you want to play the latest GTA and/or FF you will have to own a PS3.
GTA will surely be "time" exclusive as the others but those that love the series dont wait a year or so. This time around its not like you will be getting better graphics as it was before.
I dont think anyone cared anyway.

So we went from talking about any exclusives on X360 to only "big name" exclusives on PS3? Let's be fair. Such discussion also invariably raises contention between what's considered "big name" and what's not.

Ya fair enough, if they retain FF that's a big feather in their cap. However the fact it is unconfirmed as an exclusive is interesting...there's also that very juicy E3 demo they gave....

Overclocked - I don't know why you would think GTA is a timed exclusive anymore. Rockstar has said they want to go multi-platform, and as far as I know any contract with Sony has expired and Rockstar doesn't seem interested in signing another...

I don't want to get into another discussion about which titles constitue AAA, but I think it's valid to point out that Sony seems to be losing it's grip on some of it's main franchises. I mean, personally, I bought a PS2 for the GTA and FF franchises first and foremost, and everything else was secondary, and I know I'm not the minority that feels this way, just look at the sales numbers for these 2 franchises...is there anything else that matches them?

I guess it's just wierd how people can see things so differently, I see MS as having a great exclusive line-up and Sony to be very lacking in that area, while other people see the situation as complete opposite.

That's called opinion ;)

I think if you just counted up the numbers though, it's hard to argue Sony is "lacking" exclusives. I haven't done it myself, but I'd wager there are at least as many on PS3 as X360, if not more (thusfar).

How that lineup appeals to you is completely subjective of course.

Talk of "main" franchises is also interesting, because between generations what is a "main" franchise often changes. Look at what the "main" franchises on PSone were, and then on PS2. Quite different. I've no doubt things will switch around and shift places again this gen too. It's like betting on horses..if you wanna have the winning horse, your best bet is to put money on as many as possible ;) Some of the winners stay the same, but usually there are a lot of new faces too. Sony did a good job of making that transition well, be it through luck or foresight or whatever, and I think they'll do a good job again with PS3 (they're already being more aggressive with their own support I think, than they were in PS2's beginnings, that's for sure, and third party support thus far has been like a rock).

It will be an interesting few years that's for sure....I don't think it's ever been this good to be a gamer!

At the very least, I gotta give it up to MS for comin on the scene and forcing the battle of software and hardware, nothing is better then some healthy competition! We're getting beasts...

Next gen haven´t even started yet. Much will depend on market share of each machine etc. Thirdparty should (and probably will) make games for at least three platforms to maximize sales, 360/PS3/PC and the bigger thirdparty will also put out stuff on Rev and portable.

I did, and I think it'll be enough reason for me to pick up a PS3 too since the game will finally run as well if not better on a console than on a PC.

Damn it, I'm really gonna have to pick up a bigscreen HDTV before all these consoles come out. :???:

Mobile Suit Gundam - Developer: TBA

Of Topic: I'm amazed at how the Mobile Suit Gundam games are looking (or is it just one game?). I believe its made by Taito right? What the heck are they doing to make the games look so good...I wasn't expecting the Gundam games to look subpar (due to past experience with them). I'm honestly pleasently surprised..I hope the gameplay is just as good though.
