Why are you a zealot?

I believe i let the other individual define what moderate was.

er sorry I don;t understand what you meant by this, which/what other individual? do you mean each individual has a subjective definition?

I have always bought Nintendo systems I have owned the

Nintendo
Super Nintendo

and now the game cube

I love Nintendo;s gameplay and quality of games. The problem I see with Xbox and PS2 is

Price

Most games will be available for PC as well so I really have no need for their systems.

GC is small quiet and does not rely on magnetic storage like XBox and has better graphics quality in games than either competitor.

To me the fact that it does not play DVD's is not a problem since I have a stand a lone player

How is "relying on magnetic storage" a problem? :D Does it give you headache or something? Other than that, let's see the system i've owned...

NES

Commodore 64 (aaawwwwwwwwww the memories)

Sega Genesis

Nintendo Gameboy

PC (i went all PCy after the genesis and skipped the 32bit generation)

PS2

(still waiting to save enough money to get THAT GC offer some of you guys know about  )

It's a shame, considering those raised revenues of yours, because of the weak USD ;)

My GameCube + Metroid Prime was my first real encounter with Nintendo, since all I've seen before was a little Zelda on a friends GB, and some Mario, just a little. Since I got the GC it was natural starting to look for info on the system and it's games, so I consider myself quite informed on it's pros and cons. What makes me somehow "zealot"-ish is all that I call "crap" that's been in the media lately about Nintendo, like huge caps-lock title "nintendo is about to die", quoting UK-only sales data. On the other hand I guess I would have been more of a xbox fan if it wasn't MS that stands behind it, which is a company that succeeds in making my every-day work pretty hard (software engineering would be a dream without a monopoly dictating it's progress for tens of years). I really don't want them to succeed, knowing that MS's target is a complete take-over (just my opinion). THAT would suck big time.

HA!!! MY COMPANY made (is making) bigger profits, doesn't mean i see it in my wages!!

I can easily take my game cube anywhere and not have to worry about the HDD getting damanged due to excessive shock. if you drop a CG most likely will not suffer anything other than cosmetic damange wher as an x-box would most likely be inoperable...(it runs on a hacked version of Win 2K)

I saw a video of some guys dragging a Gamecube from a car going 50 miles per hour for over 5 minutes, it was wrecked; they turned it on and it worked and played games.

I'll have to find the video.

The stuff they did to it was insane and it kept working.

It took a SLEDGEHAMMER to break the darn thing. And even then it took several hits to reach the system board. o_O;

Haha... that's hilarious. I'd love to see the link. But I still fail to see how that could possibly be a pro for a system, unless you lose your temper and attack your system regularly (with anything other than a sledgehammer).

The portability factor is good, but an XBox can be lugged about fairly willy-nilly. Mine's survived three cross-Australia moves. I hardly think it can be deemed 'frail'.

I've opened up my US GC for JP playback-modification. The interior design is very well done, the main-board is protected by a shielding-cage, that is fixed with like 15-20 screws (1 cm / 0,4 inch long), the heat sink is fixed with 8 screws. The design is simple, but very efficient and robust ... I am not suprised, that a GC surived the above mentioned treatment.

I appreciate the stability, toughness and whatever else of the system, but how is it a PRO for the system itself? Unless you play football with it, i don't see why people should choose it over competitors just because you can drop it from the 5th floor and it wil still work...

I mean, if you choose it over the other, it's because of the games, or other aspects, not because it's tough... or am i mising something? Is it normal for american gamers to start kicking their console every once in a while? :D

To stay on the subject, i don't know about you, but PS2 feels awfully frail to me...

The GC is light and portable, there are many multi-player games for it ... so being robust makes it easier to grab it and bring it over, without having to worry too much about it. It's not a main selling point, but the feature is a nice-to-have kinda thing.

can you PM me the instructions on how to do it?

compare the size of the x-box and ps2 to the game cube and then tell me what you would rather lug around on a constant basis. They even make carrying cases and in car systems for the GC because of it's portability....

Is this (14M, wmv) it? The thing is made to endure for sure...

Frankly, I find using the phrase "lugging around" to describe ANY of the consoles ludicrous. They are all SMALL and EASY TO TRANSPORT. It takes more time to hook up the thing to a TV, frankly. Takes me all of a few minutes to put a GC, a PS2, 6 controllers (4 GC, 2 PS2), all the cords and associated peripherals, and toss in 10-15 game cases for good measure into a JBL speaker box and cart the thing anywhere under one arm. We're hardly talking about anything back-straining here.

Frequent LANners can talk about the merits of micro-ATX cases and different monitors and everything else in terms of "lugging," but for consoles everything is answered in the single question "Do you own a box?" :p

To make things even easier do what I did for my younger brothers and sisters who still live with my parents. There's five TV's for six kids (plus the two main ones) so I invested and bought, for each TV, a universal AV plug plus the relevant power cables. 80 bucks goes a long way towards reducing the aggravation of home visits.
