Which XB360 games available on launch day are next-gen?

Because when I bought the X-Box1, Halo1 was a next-gen looking title. It even looked better than many PC FPSs.

Obtaining an XB360 is a bitch due to shortages, and most of the true next-gen titles look to be coming out next year. So I am on the fence as to whether I should bother now.

Pdz (From the amount of time i've palyed) kameo , pgr3 , condemed are all next gen graphic wise and they are all a blast to play

PD0 looks better than most, if not all PC FPS out right now. What's the problem?

This game should have never received so much flak for its visuals. For some reason, people were expecting this game to have better graphics than life itself, and it certainly doesn't reach that level of quality. However, it does look just as good if not better than other launch titles and puts a whole bunch of recently released PC shooters to shame with its smooth framerate and visual tricks.

If your criteria for an impressive launch-title is to look better than the best PC FPS's then you have your game in PD0.

What PC FPS looks better than this?

I laugh now at all the PDZ doubters. When some of the first video was released, people were so skeptical. Now look how it turned out. Probably the best looking videogame ever released thus far. I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Microsoft kind of deserved the reaction, the first presentation of PD0 was really abysmal looking.

I laugh at the gamers who don't remember just how bad the first Halo presentation was. and then turned around and gave the exact same reaction to PDO.

Not really. I think gamers need to get a clue once in a while.

It would be nice if companies could show up actual builds in progress without being completely trashed. I'd rather see real games in progress, than some fake CG, but that's just me.

Well, from what I've seen Kameo, PGR3 and PDZ all look next-gen for the most part, although both Kameo and PDZ have some parts that don't look completely next-gen. Personally I think the launch lineup is phenomenal. If you compare it to the PS2 launch it's like night and day. The PS2 didn't get a great game until GT3 shipped about 6 months after launch, which is probably when we'll see Gears of War on X360.

MS has delivered enough quality at launch for the hardcore Xbox gamer, but probably no more. But by the time they solve their supply issues they'll be pumping out some software for a greater audience - GoW, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssee, Banjo, Halo 3, etc...

Personally, I love the launch games, but it's not for everyone. That comes later.

We'll get Elder Scrolls: Oblivion before that, hopefully.

Well, then again, this is Bethesda we are talking about...

It's always hard to impress at launch. People forget how many mediocre games are released for every great one in a good year, and unrealistically expect 3+ "AAA" games in a batch of just 20 or less.

It's just not going to happen. Even in the best of times you're luck to get more than 3-4 AAA games in an entire year.

Demo, surely you have been around for a machine launch before? They all start out looking about the same as the best of the previous generation in 95% of cases, but get better in gradual steps.

There are a few which are great graphically, but give it time... give it time :]

Did everyone forget about the Dreamcast launch? Personally, I think that it had the best game titles for a launch -- in the United States at least. Maybe just suited my tastes, but Soul Caliber, NFL2k, House of Dead and Ready to Rumble were all pretty fun and showed off the console pretty well.

I agree that those screens are gorgeous, but what is this I hear about the actual game not having anti-aliasing? These screens look a little too smooth to be true, but, of course, there is more to it than that. It certainly looks like it has some very nice lighting, shadows, bumpmapping, and general use of textures.

BTW, I have read about the lack of AA for several titles, including Call of Duty 2 and PGR 3. What gives?

PS. The reason I ask is not because you must have AA to be next-gen, but because Microsoft promised this, and for free no less, so that must be their take on "next-gen."

This has been discussed before, and it seems all the games have AA, but then again we are talking about rushed launch titles, hardly games that are teh showcase for the hardware, developers didn't have more than a couple of months on final hardware...

Is that what you heard from the devs or is that something you hope?

I didn't really understand what you just wrote. All games have it but these don't? And why wouldn't the first games be a showcase? Isn't that exactly what they have to be to attract people to this new system?

Let's not turn this into some strange debate. I am just saying that those images in the post I quoted look like they have super high AA and I also read that there is no AA in the actual game. Microsoft made a point of AA being next-gen, so ... it follows that Microsoft would have games with AA, right? So, if Perfect Dark Zero doesn't have AA, for whatever reason, but could have it for free and should have it, according to MIcrosoft's philosophy, are we really looking at a next-gen game here? Follow me?

All games have 2xAA this was confirmed by Peter Moore at a Zero Hour interview I saw, it's a requirement.
Ok, so these "reports" of people saying they are not seeing AA is probably just some areas of the screen where the sample pattern is not working very well then?

2x AA would probably still mean a large discrepancy between those screen shots in this thread and the actual gameplay image quality. Those "captures" look like they are beyond 4xAA.

Hmm, why aren't 1st gen games be a showcase?

Perhaps because 1st gen games are never designed from the ground up on the hardware they run on? Kinda hard for a game to be a hardware showcase if the game is not designed for that specific hardware, don't you think?
