What does it take to make more interactive environments on the xbox 360

Destructible things and physics are the best next gen feature IMO.

Heavenly Sword still makes my jaw drop when you destroy eveything then use the hurricane move to make it all fly forward.

Like the Crysis destruction, interactivity, procedural creation of breaking joints and material deformation. That in smaller scale would sure be something to behold on a xbox360 game, GEoW2 perhaps?

I'm actually not very impressed with what I've seen of the GoW2 destructible environments. Sure it looks pretty cool but the whole bit that does it for me with destructible environments are the changes in the gameplay dynamics caused by allowing the player to blow and then walk through barriers the designer never intended the player to go through. From what I've seen with GoW2 the destruction is purely a visual effect, leaving structural bars just close enough together to not allow players to go through (although I wonder if they might allow small enemy creatures through, as that is far more controllable than letting a player through).

Granted making a game where you have little to no control on where the player goes and when they go there is an extraordinary task that no studio has fully accomplished yet (imo), but I'm still waiting for that one studio that makes the successful plunge and manages to do so without also closing their doors.

What you saw was a new feature for Unreal Engine 3.0, not Gears of War 2. Who knows how they will use such a feature in the game besides Epic themselves? All you saw of Gears 2 was the teaser trailer at the end of the conference.

That said, I wouldn't mind if we had objectives that involved destroying something big to take out something also very big that is living and dangerous. :p

Being able to take down roof parts or a whole roof, making a hole on the concrete wall to get behind the enemies and surprise... pure andrenaline booster and fun factor multiplier.

Indeed but think about the changes in gameplay that could be made with a little imagination and skill, like blowing a hole in the wall just big enought to put a granade through it or even just to headshot someone there can be great changes in game play, even if you cant go through the wall though really bringing the roof down would take things to a new level of gameplay.

I was thinking more about single player xbox live is not prepared to handle that at least i dont think it is unless they start making public servers instead of gamers hosting everything.

....what?

Xbox live is more than capable of handle any type of game, the only problem with doing this in singleplayer vs multiplayer is bandwidth. As long as the gamer that host has a good upload speed there is no problem.

Besides, there are games on XBL that have dedicated servers, so i dont get what your on about..

How many games do you know that have dedicated servers?
Players connections arent fast enough to handle all that without a dedicated server and most games use us players as hosts so that makes live not prepared for it
