What console do you *currently* intend to get? (Post E3 edition)

Having seen E3, what console do you *currently* intend to get?

Would have easily jumped to PS4 if they'd fixed PSN and kept multiplayer free. I think Live is going to perform better, and they're priced the same, so Live wins out for me. Fortunately, I'm in a position where the $100 price difference on the launch is inconsequential to me, but I know it won't be for a lot of people. On principle, I support the disc model on PS4 for trading, lending, and selling. I'm not convinced publishers won't find their own way to control the used game market, because they've been so vocally opposed to it. Microsoft has Kinect bundled, which is something I want. Motherflippers didn't include boxing in Kinect Rivals, but I'm going to hold on to the hope that someone will do it right. I don't think Eye will be a realistic replacement since it is not bundled. Online requirement for Xbox One is not a problem for me. Pervasive online features is actually a selling point for me. So far, I think Microsoft has shown exclusive games (timed or total) that are of more interest to me.

So, I decided to go the Xbox route. I can easily see the thing getting trounced in the marketplace. I don't like to make predictions, but if that happens I'll just take it as an opportunity to quit gaming. My gaming is diminishing more and more, and this is probably my last hurrah for being a person that puts in significant time.

Edit: I would like to add that I decided I'd only buy one console this gen. Last gen I bought all three. The decision is not so much to do with money as it is about limiting how much time I spend playing games. If I wasn't trying to limit my time, I'd be buying both an X1 and a PS4.

And then he can install the game on the friend's X1? I guess he couldn't loan a game though, right?

Yeah, he installs the game on his friends X1. When he goes home, his friend can basically pay to unlock the game for himself, if he likes it. That's how it was described. Supposedly they are working on a way to loan games. I would assume it won't happen, rather than expect that it will.

PS4 for me as well. The launch price and Sony finally getting their act together makes me excited for what the years lie ahead in terms of gaming. They hit the nail on the head with no DRM and with that comes form me a higher level of trust towards a company I'm purchasing products from. I'll get an X1 for the games most likely, but will wait and see how this whole Kinect thing works out. The launch price seems a little steep for the paltry hardware fused into it. I don't consider Kinect to be worth the additional cost of the console and would like to have seen it added in at no cost. Siri might end up in the living room anyway in a large fashion and with that means all this voice activated competition can get nasty. If MS dropped the price to $400 I'd get both at launch, but as for now I'll be dedicating my money towards PS4, one for me and one for my son.

PS4 for me.

I think PS+ is a better value with the free game each month, and since I buy fewer games these days I don't tend to be as picky. It seems I'll have to pay a subscription fee one way or the other so I might as well get a few games to go with it. That and my wife is extremely excited for Kingodm Hearts for our 3 year old (who loves playing little big planet with us).

Notionally the DRM, lower price, and the ability to use youtube/netflix without a subscription also seem like good things to me - but if I am honest with myself they don't really matter. My TV has a netflix client, I tend to keep the games I play only on the system I buy them for, and the extra $100 really doesn't bother me.

Can't say I was blown away by either presentation - but Sony hit on enough of the things that matter to me that I placed a pre-order to get a day 1 system. I'll still probably buy the XB1 a few months after release.

MS have started giving away 2 free games a month. I just downloaded Fable 3. I don't know if/when that will carry over to X1.

Is it not that you and a number of family/friends can access and play your games from any system, I heard 10, but they'd need to be connected to XBL to play from other consoles?

Apparently upto 10 members of your "family" can play games in your shared library from any X1 console.

I have no idea how that family friends thing is going to work. I just know you have full access to your game library from any Xbox One you log into.

Here are the MS quotes I saw on oxm:

In addition, Xbox One "will enable new forms of access for families" via Xbox Live regardless of location. "Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend's house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games."

"You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time."

I've owned all the platforms for the past 2 generations mainly so I can enjoy the exclusives but with the monthly fees it will be harder to justify the expense moving forward. I've never paid for Live and will not start paying for it now and while MP on the PS4 sitting behind a paywall is less than ideal it honestly doesn't affect me since I don't play MP.

Netflix, streaming music and single player is what I use. I am still holding out a little hope that XB1 doesn't hide access to services behind paywall then I could justify buying both and keeping them in different parts of the house so we could game, watch streaming movies, or listen to music online but if its going to cost money I won't make the investment in the platform.

From what was said during the stream, that ends when the XB1 is released.

On the other hand, PS+ was given the numbers of 1 free PS4 game per month, and 4 PS3/PS Vita games (approximately 1 a week) that would be playable on the PS4. Keep in mind that from the time I've been in PS+, they have averaged this number (2 PS3, 2PS Vita) games per month with holiday specials and such.

So for the next ~4-6 months XB Live will just equal what PS+ already does. After that, there isn't much comparison unless XB1 decides to continue the program and include XB1 games.

My original idea was going for a steambox solution, but then I ended up buying a PC just to play around with the Oculus thingy, so now a console is on the horizon again.

But to me the price and the online drm is not a killer for getting a X1, my devices are always online anyway, only issue would be if I had internet problems for more than 24h.
Price is $100 difference and I am fortunate enough to not have that as a deal breaker.

X1 tv stuff will most likely not be compatible here in Norway, Kinect stuff does not appeal to me, nor does move really. I tried to buy into move on the PS3, but...

So what actually it comes down to is the indies, strange, but that was also the reason I wanted to go the steambox route anyway. So it looks like it will be a PS4, with that said, if the PS4 launches in december and the X1 in November, I would not be surprised if I ended up with both.... :)

All your son would need to do is login to his gamertag at a friend's house and then he has access to his entire full game library there. *shrug*

I can understand the frustrations behind what seems to be restrictions.

Have they said how much this feature is going to cost?

Its included in Xbox gold. So far what I've seen is it will remain the same price, but I don't know of that is official.

Xbox One.

Even so, I am left with some kind of emptiness feeling after the E3. The console is expensive and despite it's good value there, I've never ever paid so much for a console. :???:

I was interested in the PS4 as my second console. I had planned to buy it in 2015-2016 to play its exclusive games like GT and every other exclusive.

But I also felt disappointed after they said there wouldn't be DRM in the E3 conference and then they said there could be DRM.

That would be okay -I am trying to get used to the idea of the DRM- if the E3 announcement wasn't SO populist and they told the truth then. So it was kind of a huge turn off, I felt like they were outright lying then.

Sticking to PC again this generation... although I'm very interested in PS4...

If the image quality is a big leap from quite frankly, the piss poor IQ on the current consoles then I'll seriously consider getting one.

But the PC games will be improved from the higher baseline. It isn't so much technology but art which is deficient in a lot of current PC games. The art is designed around limitations which were laid down 8 years ago with the Xbox 360.

Still very interested in both. If I can afford to, I'll get them both. Otherwise, PS4 first from the looks of things.
