What Are The Fastests Cells Out in "The Wild"?

Isn't OTSS a non-SOI fab though? I thought their 65nm process was to remain 'bulk' as well. Obviously you're closer to it all Archie, but I thought OTSS was going to be doing the RSX, and Nagasaki would be doing both.

On the OTSS-RSX connection, I'm pretty sure...

RSX will be manufactured at Sony Group’s Nagasaki Fab2 as well as OTSS (joint fabrication facility of Toshiba and Sony).

Wonder if we can get any sort of clarification from someone at IBM in regards to the comment -- the Cell guys over at the IBM forums seem to be pretty good about answering questions. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 20-40% with 7SPE, but I'd love for it to be wrong, if only to spite Charlie for his continually dubious behavior.
The IBM guy did say that nobody's done "logic redundancy" before. Right there it becomes a little unlikely that he means just deactivating an SPE when he talks about "logic redundancy" IMO. Because that has been done a lot lately, and he really should know about it. ATI and NVIDIA have used that kind of tech, disabling "pipes" that is, in their desktop parts and it wasn't a secret either.

I'm always amused that the Toshiba/GS connection keeps coming up... I wonder why this myth continues to thrive... Anyways the Nagasaki fabs do fab the EE+GS chips though...

I stuck a question mark in there for a reason =o

I never paid much attention to the PS2 hardware (as I had sort of lost interest in console gaming around the end of PS1 generation and didn't start back up til around 2001), but I was under the impression that Toshiba was behind the GS? Apparently mistakenly!

Phooey! You're just peeved 'cause your Al box and pile of LEDs are out of date..
Don't get me wrong, I like counting pretty leds and all but yea, who wants old boxes. :p

Quite contrary to popular modern mythology (e.g. Cell GPUs and such), the EE didn't particularly have many yeild issues... The GS OTOH...
Indeed, IIRC early EEs were even overclockable

I wouldn't be surprised if this very post of yours started turning up around the net as 'proof' of the 'dire' Cell situation.
I know, but I have one safety net - I don't think I'm a very credible source in Inquirer eyes. Now if I posted that same thing using names such as "Deadmeat" or "Fishie", I'm sure it would get their attention.
