Want to participate on a demo?

I took a look at osdm the other day and went ahead trying it out and did an intro for a lan event during the last day or two. Seems like a real fun demo making tool for oldskool type demos.

Now I had this idea of making a sort of "hello b3d" kind of a demo and just wanted to check out if there were any people here wanting to participate... I could use a nice background graphics image, possibly some cool logo image and if you feel like a poet, I could consider taking your scroller text in there too.

If you consider yourself an able tracker musician, I'd be interested in hearing about you too. I'd just pretty much do the easy task of putting the thing together. :)

Now let's brainstorm or what?

oh. well if this has already been done, I'll put my shoe firmly in my mouth. mmmpf mmm

okay, in that case maybe I will follow this up by posting a demo with placeholder stuff as soon as possible. Might take a couple of days. Or at least I need to get home and catch up with sleeping first :)

I know a musician with demo experience. I can also do coding, but I'm a lazy bastard. If you can deal with that, then I can do some stuff.

well, here's some placeholder stuff just to give you an idea of what sort of stuff can be easily done.

if you want to have any of the source pics, here

the 3d ball object is just text as follows, number just gives the color.

Code:
111 1 1
1 1 1 1
111 1111
1 1 1
1 1 1

music can be xm or mod if you use tracker software, sid is also acceptable if you'd rather use john player or something :)
if all else fails, mp3 shall suffice.

man, it seems like we have a plethora of experienced mod trackers here already, whereas i have none, but man i would feel a fool not to say i'd LOVE to be involved. i've been in love with the .mod sound for as long as i can remember, but since there was never any real impetus i never meassed with much except one really brief playing around with IT. if no-one else gets more excited about this then i'll fire up IT again and see what i can do. any ideas regarding length?

edit: omg ahahahaha i just viewed the placeholder and man that's great/cheesy/awful! ;) everything's just stolen straight out of old demos, nice. 8) let's see what you can do with it mendel! :D

You don't need to be amazingly good at anything you do as long as you hve the spirit just like that :)

Anything close to 2 minutes will certainly be enough, give or take 30 seconds.

lol, that's more of a cracktro then a demo. I double checked the first post, and it seems you're using a demo tool, so no wonder it looks so... nevermind.

Anyways, here's the last demo-like thing I programed. Everything, except for the textures, is from scratch and written in C++. The particle system is warped by a gravity attractor thing. It has some weird bugs, and no warranty is implied. :p

Also, here's some retarded shader thing I wrote literally years ago:

Also, a dump of my bookmarks. I created this for my failed demoscene team at UW, but maybe you'll find it useful. I make no guarantees that all the links still work.

btw, on the main page you can see the logo I made. I could take out the UW part, if you want to use it.

Yeah that was quick and dirty but at least it'll keep the discussion going maybe :) I can imagine the final version will be lenghtier, over a minute anyways.

I'll check your stuff when I get home and if its any good and if you're willing to stay onboard, we can consider scrapping the osdm for the time being.

If not, well, at least there's still a gaping hole at the graphics artist department of this project.

In any case, for better understanding of what can be done with the tool I will release the demo I made earlier for a LAN event for limited audience of those interested, they will have to PM me to get it... and it will be available for them early next week as I'm still polishing it for first display next friday.

In any case if this little project goes well, there's always a chance of making an actually cool demo for Assembly next fall but let's not get ahead ourselves with that yet

well, can't seem to get any gfx artists to help so I'll have to do the art myself

Anyways, I'll pm some of you guys that might want to track music for this thing later on the week and see if we can get the project started.

I'll assure you, something will come out of this... maybe something awful but still something :)

I sort of know how to use Maya and ZBrush, and am much better with Photoshop, but don't expect fantastic work, lol!

However, I might be able to recruit a far more skilled modeller or two.

We still need a 2d graphics artist.

Pictures needed.

1) a spaceship
2)futuristic city. Renders or drawn pics will do.
3) oldskool style logo.

image resolutions same as those of placeholder pictures.

I may use either the whole image or just part of what you have. PM me if interested.

Looks exactly like something I'm looking for!

Could you please pm me your email address so we might continue correspondence about art stuff privately.

edit: that or provide some kind of contact information. Can't find any contact links on your website either, which was kinda odd. That link to gamershell doesn't seem to work either.
