Is this the engine used for 5th Phantom Saga?

I don't think it deserves the hate you guys are getting. Looks as good as Oblivion easily and seems to be the same game-setting (I know its just a demo picture), so if its an example of a huge RPG or even the MMO I'm impressed. A bit plasticy, but thats an art issue (or should be).

I'm mildly interested now in seeing what they present at GDC, but theres really only one engine I really am excited about (Naughty Dog's).

You know, I always thought that lighting was supposed to show off more detail and make the game more immersive. But then I see a game like this and my mind completely implodes. Dammit!

Easily as good. Especially compared to the newer screens (without the IQ cleaned to hell of the early ones). Not that Oblivion is a real looker, except when accounting for scope...people give it alot more credit than it deserves.

Okay I think that you guys are being just a little to harsh on this engine at the moment. Yes it definitly needs work but it' could be alot worse.

If I were just joining this thread and didn't know the names of engines, I would of thought the first screenshot was the Vision game engine. I prefer that screenshot by far.

Of course it's not to say that the engine in the second screenshot isn't better than the first. Just that the art direction in the first is much superior.

I'm still not convinced. although it doesn't look quite as bad (probably because the character is hard to see) there's nothing in that screenshot that looks next-gen to me. also, the stone still looks like shiny aluminum foil
