That an american citizen could be arrested and detained without trial and without charge, for indefinite amounts of time, is a key infringement upon our liberties.

Hell, even I agree with Natoma on that one. Now have a trial for the SOB and send him to jail

I think this all comes down to how much you trust the government. History has shown us that you can't. But I would also say there would need to be some system that would allow the protection of classified info.
