Ditto. While it might be considered technically impressive, I'm somewhat disappointed by the art-direction. IMO, VirtuaTennis had a more realistic touch than this considering its platform... :???:

I can wait until 3 releases, because neither the environments nor the character models are moving me. It might be because of pgr3 and fight night 3, but all things being equal I think the models in all of the ea games look better than these.
If we expect FNR3 to look great because there are only two people in the ring, then shouldn't we expect the same for tennis where there is at most 4. Even if you say its not necessary because you are further away in tennis (the camera that is) then shouldn't the environments be drop dead gorgeous?

Never mind, I know its not all about the graphics, its about the gameplay, but is it so wrong to want to have both?

Virtua Tennis 2 on PS2

You're right, the graphical jump is almost unnoticable, what are they thinking?

Folks, sure there's room left for improvement! But seriously, aren't you expecting way too much from every next-gen game? IMO it looks very good both technically and artistically and, as with most X360 titles, you'll probably have to see the game in motion on a real HDTV to truly appreciate the visuals.

Blake's (I assume that's him) character model looks awesome in that shot above IMO. Not all others are as impressive, but certainly nice enough. mckmas was salivating over the pants of the fighters in the VF5 thread, well Blake's socks look one hell of a lot better than those pants! ;)
The environments are all very detailed and nicely done too, with a lot of variety in locations and backgrounds. They have a full squad of linesmen, refs, ballboys and a massive 3D crowd (just look at the huge centercourt). The main weakness is the lighting of the environments, it just isn't very realistic or visually impressive. Hopefully they'll do something about that before release, maybe they should have a little chat with Bizzare about their real-time ambient occlusion techniques.

Other than that it looks great and definitely next-gen. If the gameplay is anything like the original, this should be one sweet game!

I really don't know how anyone could say a PS2 or dreamcast game like virtual tennis looks better than this. This still looks better than the previous top spin as well.

I'm going to assume that was directed at me, which is why I would suggest you read my post more carefully nextime:

Besides, that's a rather poor screen you picked there. I'm sure you can find others which show quite nicely that for example the colours used in VirtuaTennis were more accurate IMO. I'm also not too impressed by the look of the characters (they come across as looking fake, doll-ish). As I implied, they probably just went for a different art-direction, which is fine if you like it. I just happen to find it not very appealing.

Best of thanks, Qroach, for the negative reputation for stating my humble opinion on something as trivial/subjective as art-direction. How that could be mistaken to be saying that a PS2/Dreamcast game looks better than TopSpin2 is beyond me...... must have hit a nerve with this one.

It's far reaching comments like that which people to repond in a negative way. I'm stating my humble opinion that your comparrison is uncessary and unreasonable. Can i not state my opinion on something someone says? I think you saying that wasn't necessary and obviously leads to people replying to you in a negative fashion (gollums post). the fact you are crying about it when you gave me a negative post in the past for stating my opinion in the same way is laughable.

Btw, nextime send me a private message instead of talking about this here. I didn't drag it out in to the forum when you gave me a negative rep for posting my opinion on something.

trying too hard to be polite? This dont look at all next gen. :(
Scoobs and i agree on next gen is high polys + more realistic lighting + post processing. Polys for a next gen tennis game should be higher.

Perhaps you should wait until the game is finished or more media is released, before passing judgement on some screen shots you have no idea how recently they were taken? This also happened with fight night before the demo came out and people were bitching about the lighting and "downgraded models from the PS3 fight night presentation at E3. Then the demo came out and changed most of those opinions.
