Hopefully Alexsok, Sancheus and the others that want to be something I wanted to be before summer 2001 are reading this... this is my list, which shows the sh*tty side of the coin of _knowing_ things:
1. Glaze3D ---> canned.
2. G800 --> canned.
3. Axe ---> canned.
4. Xabre ---> flopped and late.
5. Hammer ---> canned.
6. Trident XP4 ---> still late.
7. Parhelia ---> delayed way too much.

after 2 years, getting at last some money to make GFX card change ---> Matrox pulls out of the market, SiS cheats whenever it's possible and Trident hasn't got anything out.

each time I have gotten stuff on my face. Of Course HellBinder can tell us the story from bright side of the coin, where card is said to be _CRUSH_ everything on arrival and it truly does it. Still, it is worth of considering if you are sure that you want burn your fingers. At least in my case 7 times from 7 possibilities, that is what has happened.

with being a honest here, if Matrox truly pulls the plug and leaves the market, I am pretty much finished here. Most likely I find myself buying cheap Radeon 9000 and using rest of the money I have reserved, to something that has nothing to do with computers. during these last 18 months, this whole business have been not just a hobby, but passion. even in 12 months ago, I wanted to make it to full time job as well. since then, lots of things has changed and I am not sure anymore what I want. I had plans and ideas but those are all gone now. Feeling is pretty much empty. Of course, I have been getting huge amount of knowledge. when I first time popped in here, I hardly understood anything. but without counting that, zero, nolla, nil, nothing.

I'll be hanging around as long as M is on it's way to the door. when they close it behind, I most likely fade away.

::hugs nappe1 and sighs:: As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter at all if you are in the know or not, or whatever, you'll always be welcome here!

You really are passionate aren't you?
You have to understand there is more to life than graphics cards ... I dont know what it is but when I find it will be sure to tell you.
No egg on your face from what I can see... you always make intelligent observations and sometimes we are wrong. Admitting that you are not perfect is the making of a great man. Admitting you are wrong and giving up though is not.

Cheer up dude - unless you have your life savings attached to any of the above you got nothing to worry about. I respect you.. I am sure others on this board do too, friend.

Hey, I have been wrong more than right myself... Remember im the *fool* that claimed that the Nv30 was a 4x4... ;)

But I was right about the Parahelia being... less than... Well.. and a few other things. like for instance that the R350 is a Real product, is not just a sped up R300, and IS comming out in Q1. Or the fact that the R350 is .15u, uses Standard DDR and is about the speed increase over the R300 that the GF4 ti 4600 was over the GF3. ;)

BTW, The hammer is not canned. Waht Hammer are you talking about?

What ever happend to Duke Nuke Em..now thats the real question

I don't think anyone can ever get it all right. Besides at any company there are so many unpredictable factors that can play a role, that it's never unlikely that chip X will never show up at all, or loose the game when it turns up abysmally delayed.

I'd love to see PVR f.e. to finally proove themselves with their next generation part, yet there are so many conditionals involved that I'll rather sit tight, until official announcements are made.

Any IHV can come up with the hottest design; if it doesn't show up or gets delayed over 6 months it's just not that hot anymore ;)

How you could have thought Nvidia was going into the automotive business is still beyond me! ;)

The main reason why I believe its not so 'hot' anymore is because of the incredible amount of R&D and manufacturing costs to stay competetive in the desktop graphics market....two major players own that segment with Intel leading the integrated chipset...Intel is not going anywhere..I don't see Nvidia or ATI going anywere either..all of them have their place and for a 'little' guy to break into this market now...they would need to find some alien part off a spacecraft to break in now. :LOL:

Nappe1, G800 wasn't canned. Just neutered and called G550. :)
Rooting for the underdog is frustrating, but it is the rarity of their success that make those successes great.

That wouldn't work either, the government charges an enormous ammount of money to license UFO technology (unless you've got a military contract for your product, of course).

Actually I think a bigger problem for a small player would be the IP issues. A small player would have to be backed and indemnified by someone really big with enough IP in the industry to protect you (Microsoft, Intel, etc.)

Fair enough, yet I don't think we'll see the R350 until whenever ATi feels that nVidia threatens their "spot in the sun"..
Be it Q1 or Q2..

Also, their plans for the R400 to be a "R300 time of year" product probably means that the R350 will be out around the time we saw the upgraded R200s this year, early, to get the most out of it.

I am glad that the thing is coming though, because that means affordable (for me) DX9 sooner..

With Regards
