Three Speech

Three Speech isn't part of PlayStation, but it does get to speak to PlayStation. You could say we're 'semi official'.

Interesting website which appears to be an accumulation of different articles (blogs) done by independent journalist (the most recent one from a writer for Euro-Gamer) but obliviously working closely with SCE. The most recent entry is about Phil Harrison in regards to the use of Blu-Ray in the PS3. Basically re-(gurgitating)iterating was has already been said by the proponents and opponents of Blu-Ray's implementation in the PS3. The other entries include a quick summary of PS3 TGS highlights, summary of the controller, and a piece of the European ad-campaign. No new information to be found anywhere. Nonetheless, the site has potential, I think. The premise behind it sounds interesting. Could be an excellent gateway for some exclusive content, before, and after, launch.

We hooked up Rob Fahey from Eurogamer.net with Sony’s head of worldwide studios, Phil Harrison, for a long and intense interview that will lead to a whole series of pieces to be published on Three Speech. Here’s the first, with Phil Harrison talking PS3 hardware.

This is the introduction. Rob Fahey takes it from there, hence the sign-off at the end. I agree it is confusing and the top quote should have been Italics.

It seems Major-Nelson-style PR
I ran a Whois search, and threepseech is owned by a fancy-doodle modern divergent marketting company , http://www.rampindustry.com/

It's a very lame website, ugly and confusing and not anyone I'd work with, but hey...and basically they seem to promote the more out-there marketting methods. So yeah, it's likely like Nelson - a PR campaign thinly guised as a Blogsite.

"cool" mispellings are SO over...

I'm frightened at the thought that because of use, in the future we'll be writing like we write texts today. That's how languages change. Creepy, i don't wanna start saying LOL or OMG in conversations. Or spell 3 as "free", or "free" as "three" or fr33 or frii..... I mean there is a limit to the stupidness my brain can take.

Interesting blog, I bookmarked it for future reference. Anybody know what specific journalists are involved with "Three Speech"?

There has been a ton of content added recently, so I figured now is as good of a time as any to do a little update. Some of the commercials are up there (available in better quality at GameTrailers), some (low-quality) gameplay footage, and a few other odds and ends. Most interesting, to me, however, are some of the interviews. Some small, but interesting, details are revealed in them. A few highlights:

Is there any way players could record their own gameplay footage on the hard drive and then share it online?
“[Laughs] We’re actually already working on it now. There are two ways to do it. One is as pure video actually saved direct from the gameplay experience, but that creates quite a large data cloud. The more efficient way of doing it is to record game input and then share that to each user. We are doing that in a very innovative way on a game that we haven’t shown anybody yet.

How often do you expect PS3 firmware upgrades to happen?
“Right now we are focused on day one. I would imagine that there would be a firmware upgrade in time for the European launch. European consumers will probably get a step-up firmware upgrade, exactly as we did with PSP.“

How’s Killzone coming along?
“With Killzone, the expectation internally and externally is very high – and I won’t show it until it’s going to exceed people’s expectations. It will be next year before we show it again, but it’s coming along very well. The team are working very hard, they know exactly what they have to do and there’s no doubt they will achieve it, but there’s nothing to be served by something that doesn’t satisfy my goals for the project. I can tell you, though, that some elements already exceed the trailer.”

Also, niche content will become available when specific software has been purchased. Therefore, once you have purchased you’re copy of GTHD you will be able to access a range of options that those without the game will not have.

The Xross Media Bar of the PS3 is designed to allow for an unlimited number of files to be open at any one time. All of the content that is open is represented by an animated thumbnail which can be accessed instantly (with no loading time).

Phil Harrison’s recent comments regarding the master ID that you obtain once you are registered onto your PS3 has been creating a stir. Mainly by those worrying that, due to the PS3’s early release in the US and Japan, by the time the PS3 launches in Europe all of the decent usernames will have been taken.
Well have no fear, we’ve been informed by PlayStation that when the PS3 launches in the US on 17th November, the rest of the world will be able to register their usernames online at the PlayStation Store via your PC.

The Mission Impossible III movie was loaded up for us to take a look at the Blu-ray function on the PS3. Shoddy movie, but again, it looked highly impressive.
The music function on the PS3 allows for all of your music to be instantly transferred (meta data and all). Much like iTunes you can flick through your music, using album covers to guide your way.

ONLINE USERNAMES
Online, it’ll be one user name for all games. You’ll get a master ID once you are registered. On some games, you’ll be able to set up your own buddy list. If you meet someone playing one of these games, you’ll be able to transfer them to your master buddy list. The thinking being that not everyone you’re playing Resistance: Fall Of Man with is necessarily someone you’ll be communicating with about other things.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the update Gradthrawn.

I really like the sound of user made game videos, I would like to see where that goes.
On the negative side, it sounds like it might be around GDC until when we will see killzone again. :/

You're welcome.

Kill Zone, Eight Days, Eydentify, and The Getaway all have a lot to live up to, but to me are also things to look forward to in the long run, after the 2007 onslaught (Heavinly Sword, Motor Storm, WarHawk, MGS, DMC, etc).

I didn't plan on doing frequent updates about the site, I figured I would wait until a lot of new content was posted and then post that here (like I did last time). However, this last update has one bit that got me really excited:

Is episodic gaming something that you are keen to experiment with?
“We are doing a couple of things which are bang on that objective. The area that I’m most excited about at the moment is empowering user-created content. Embedding the user creation tools into the game application and opening it up to a cloud of users. That’s the trend I’m most excited about.”

On the most basic level you’re talking about map makers, but how far could user-created content go with PS3?
“Well, I have to be really careful not to give the game away because we’re keeping this secret, but don’t think about it in terms of maps, think of it in terms of behaviours, environments, physics, rules… all the tools that you could want, but in a very consumer friendly way.”

We're obviously talking about long-term possibilities here, not immediate. Nonetheless, it still has me excited. I mean, I don't drop this much money on a device solely for short term entertainment.

I encourage you all to check out the rest of that interview. There are other interesting bits there. Here's a direct link to it.

Thanks again Gradthrawn, I'm really interested in this line personally...
[At this point Phil has an idea for a Christmas-themed Motorstorm bonus called Snowstorm, and rushes off to write it down.]â€￾

You're welcome again. ^_^

That caught my eye too, but would have been a lot more effective if we could have the game in hand by Christmas. :devilish: "We" as in countries other than Japan. "We" do get an online enabled version versus a Project 8 style handicapped edition, however. :D What I thought was funny was that he ran off to write the idea down. I like Harrison (although I know many don't).

Yeah that was kinda weird, but its good he took note of it. And I agree with the 2nd comment. Personally I think Harrison is easily the best guy Sony has speaking for their behalf. He should be the main speaker at more of their events and PR statements.

This is Sony's response to Major Nelson/gamerscore/etc, basically.

A story even did the Kotaku-Joystiq-etc rounds a while back "Sony needs a Major Nelson, a corporate blogger with an insiders take to make users feel connected" blah blah. What do you know a few weeks later "three speech" surfaces..
