Yes, but the explosion shown in the video now being discussed clearly starts *on* the ground.

It clearly doesn't, examine 2:12 more carefully in the first video and the first few seconds of the second video. The big spherical fireball is the explosion; the dust/mushroom cloud is the junk stired up by the explosion, and that always starts from where there is dust to stirr up(the ground). If it had exploded on the ground the dust would swirl up toghether with the fireball, but you can clearly see a fireball with dust starting to rise below it.

The second video doesn't appear to be of the same explosion as the first, if you look at the clouds that form around the explosion. But both appear to start far above ground.
