I was thinking it has to behave exactly the same, so they would simulated the exact DDR3 timings by adding delays. They can't allow new slim model to run games faster, the game would have to be tested for two hardware, studios would be angry, early adopters would be angry.
2 things come to mind. One is isn't the game code only interacting with the GameOS virtual machine ? As long as the VM acts the same would it matter how fast the hardware was ? Not knowing the answer the next thing that comes to mind would be ESRAM specific routines that might be affected by major changes in the memory system.
