The need for sustained high throughput loading of data in games? *spawn*

who told you it was those two things that had the biggest impact on the I/O rather than the other improvements such as the on chip decompression which has already been said to have the biggest impact?
Indeed it is the I/O Coprocessors and DMAC in the PS5 I/O complex that should have the biggest impact on reaching 100X improvement. The decompression is for increasing throughput. That alone wouldn't eliminate bottlenecks when executing file I/O code. On the other hand the XSX should have similar hardware once we get to see what's really inside.
 
Flight Simulator 2020 (the only existing truly "next-gen" experience apart from Star Citizen) is an extreme example of asset streaming and even it does not require a ridiculous SSD to function. 16 GB of RAM recommended though.
