The Order: 1886

Just finished it on hard !
Me and my niece's views: a Very Powerful Experience ! Highly recommend !

No idea what the reviewers found wrong with it. My only complaint is the last boss fight is a replica of the first one. Other than that : flawless for me ! it !

Shooting: super fun. Super snappy and responsive. Loved the guns ,I mean, loved them.
Story: Super mysterious. I did not find the ending abrupt, in fact, it felt very powerful to us. Can't wait for more. My niece wants a novel in this universe with these characters (are u listening @MJP ;) ?)
Atmosphere, characters and setting: impeccable ! Each room reeks of mood and atmosphere. Each character has weight. For a change characters are not cosmetic, not dolls. Rani of Jhansi came accross really powerful and well made. No cute dolls please and I like it.
Length: Funnily, we have no complaints. I usually am a advocate of long games, like LOU and Wolfenstien, but this was like reading a novel to me. I just loved it. The way nothing is really told, but just happens during dialogues. Relationships, important points everything just goes out during dialogues. Love their way of telling the story. Feels like I am in there just listening to thier conversations, nobody is deliberately telling me a story. Felt new, super immersive, non-intrusive and fresh :) ! I got so irritated by Alan Wake reciting everything to me twice, thrice.
QTEs: No problems at all.THey are few and far or, maybe I am crazy, cos I kept waiting for "too many QTEs" and they never came.

Loved it in every way and am still awed by the graphics:cool: :yes: !

@RenegadeRocks wow that sounds so good :D
Btw I just spoiled the first hour off YouTube. It seems the goons is lower quality? friend really useless, the guns sounds so low and did not change between areas (very apparent when you are outside shooting then goes to a hall then inside building). The qte looks weird but everything else looks fine.

TheThe battle looks pretty standard gears of War so it should be good enough. The enemy waves also kept atat minimal so the battle not drag too long ala call of Duty.

Don't get over hyped, my playtimes are limited and the way it went for us, it worked really well. I think reviewers with the urge to finish it as quickly as possible is what is spoiling it for them. Same for others maybe who want an action heavy TPS to plogh through. The game just goes as the story goes, it doesn't care how many times u get to fight or not get to fight.
I really like the shooting in this one. There are some long firefights later once the protagonist actually gets a reason to fight.

Just play it. I loved it, there's a sizeable population out there who loves it cos overall the package works. If u want just a shooter, maybe it won't, I can't tell cos it worked on me :D ! The only reason I am saying this is cos you loved 'Life is Strange 'while I found it "OK", so .......different strokes.

Really? I thought any mission involving the possibiltiy of open firefights breaking out aboard a zepellin (or any other kind of airship for that matter) should feel like one of the most dangerous undertakings imaginable, yet there was never any sense of peril whatsoever. Not even when the bomb went off. And don't start with the stupid they're-just-keeping-it-more-grounded argument again. Fury was a grounded movie (literally), yet that didn't keep it from being exciting as hell. The whole airship segment was just criminally sedate.

The shooting passage in the zeppelin especially is well done imo.
Also the Bridge. Taken as a shooter it may not score any special points, but whatever this mix of shooting and non shooting segments was, it worked.....infact very well.

Lycan encounters are definitely the worst part of the gameplay, instead of being the best. Press X , shoot, press X. If it was upto me, they would be tense stealth sections of hiding from the beasts, and if Knights aren't afraid of the Lycans, cos they are the Knights, then they should have been trap based where we lure the lycans into various environmental raps to kill them. A BIG missed opportunity there.

Shooting vs Humans is top notch !

I liked it, I think they're just keeping it more grounded.

@yahtzee review
i chuckled when he said "instead we can wall off this deadend (super detailed) room and put the effort to make the game more fun". isnt that will make the order even more linear that what already is?

if they allow player to break the wall and access hidden room (a-la counterspy) or alternate route...

okay.. now i got spoiled with youtubing* 3 or 4 chapters of The oerder 1886 and the game... have so much talk... the feeling i get is like playing FF XIII where i just blindlessly follow the (beautiful) linear path to see the beautiful CG cutscene.

*on PS4, while pressing the QTE buttons. Got a little confused when the button prompts suddenly changes. Sometime its O sometime its triangle, somtime its X... although X is kind of consistent, it usually bind to some event that requires "jump/evade" movements.

Funny enough I thought that Rani of Jhansi was the one exception to that in the entire game considering how she wore those big jewelleries with a rebal outfit. That head ornament in particular bothers me a lot, no one wears that or big dangling earrings that go over the ear outside of formal occasions such as weddings..you know this :p

Well, I just got a copy from a friend that was finished the game and I quickly wanted to see all the fuss about the graphics in this game.

It took me no longer than about 15 minutes to make my assessment of this games graphics. Even though I'm a hardcore PC fan, I have to give credit where it is due. The game is the graphics king right now. Period. The quality of the materials, lighting and environments are staggering. They indeed nudge up one on Ryse and AC:Unity. It's not that this game has more tech than the aforementioned games, it's the talented *use* of the tech that brings this game above those two. Everything is so consistently well made.

One last thought though.. while the game is clearly the graphics king (at least IMO) for now, it's far far away from being seen as a CGI movie. There are just too many flaws with it compared to offline rendering that I can see. Overall presentation though is Ace!

It will be interesting to see if Batman:AK, Witcher 3, UC4, StarWars Battlefront, or The Division will best this games' presentation.

You forget Quantum Break and it is from a PS4 owner...

It is a very good looking game too.

To be honest, of the list I've mentioned and what I've seen of the demos.. only Batman:AK and SW:BF seem to be the closest to rivaling The Order. The other games don't really appear to come close to even Ryse and AC:Unity.

TW3 is an open world so the compromise will be big, judging from the PAX East footage it's nowhere near The Order. The Division if not been downgraded heavily knowing ubi, then it might have a chance. Battlefront's in engine footage looked insane but I'm not sure how much will be made into the game, if so then it's already beyond The Order. UC4 has potential knowing how much ND could improve before release, but having a bigger and more sand box ish environment could put it out of the contest but still very good looking. Batman AK's in game footage looked average at best, the lighting, models and shaders just did not wow except for the cutscenes.
I'm really putting my money on Qauntic Dream's next game if The Sorcerer is only their base standard, also God Of War 4 will probably be the most insane graphics wise if keeping the old or similar formula.
