The Official, Long Awaited, TV Shows Thread

Reacher did a way better job on Amazon than the movies. It captured the feel of the books way better. The books are entertaining but not great. The show did it just right IMO. It is funny that the actor is not really that big, but the effort they went to, to make him seem big was well worth it.

The enhance image thing though, surely that was just a joke? There were a few other nitpicks like that, which seemed totally unnecessary and took away from a splendid adaptation

So the gimmick in those books&series is a disproportionately tall dude called "Reacher"?

The character is 6'5" in the books. That doesn't seem disproportionate.

Jack Reacher created his debut in Child’s 1997 book The Killing Ground. The character is 6 ft 5 inches tall and weighs about 250 lbs., the creator notes in an introduction to his debut novel

I couldn't get through the first episode. I know he's trying to be stoic, but the performance came off as wooden. On many close-ups there was literally no movement in his face at all whilst somebody else was speaking to him.

Okay, he's a pretty normal guy but for some reason a big fuss is still made about his physical appearance? That's the idea I'm getting from articles about the Reacher.
Well nevermind, it's probably not my cup of tea anyway.

Well part of the focus from online articles is the movies from 2012 they essentially picked such a small frame guy to play that part, Tom Cruise at a mere listed height of 5'7". There's plenty of online posts that say he wears lifts and is shorter as well as plenty of photos where he looks same height or smaller as other shorter people.

Probably he was rendered via unreal engine :p

Btw it was a deliberate decision. His character expression changes across the episodes

I'd rather they didn't do the series at all if it meant keeping Amazon Prime prices the same instead of the huge increase.

They would have increased prices regardless.

It's pure profit and Wall Street will push them to boost prices.

The other thing is in the fall, they will be streaming Thursday Night NFL games exclusively, so that would have also cost them a lot of money.

True. I would rather they not do LOTR-prequel series nor the TNF if it meant cheaper Prime price, but it's an easy money play for them, so they're going to squeeze the consumers instead of the overcompensating phallic-ship riding and bridge tearing yachting CEO.

There are some REALLY big arches in that opening scene, Meneltarma in the background so somewhere on Numenor.

Looking generally promising.

wow thats some real bad CGI
Weta has slid backwards, then again they did do that crappy ghost army scene in the lord of the rings

Agreed. It has all the right elements, but put together really shoddily. When I recall the season finales of the first two Mandalorian series, each was just so well done.

It felt like that they had so much cool stuff, that they fumbled trying to present it to coherently.

Going full-fat cheese might have been better:

Damn that's big! I'm not in to sportsball as much as I used to be, but every bar/restaurant is gonna have to get a prime subscription just for that. :|

That's likely against the EULA of Amazon Prime as well as any other service going off historical precedence, they typically explicitly call out public establishments as requiring their own special license.

I hadn't even thought of that, if you think our Prime prices are bad how bad is it on a sports bar that has 20 screens in it?

Daaaaaaamn!
