The thing I'm curious about is why MM approached Sony first and foremost? They had a history with MS, yet MS wasn't their first port of call, and Sony took it up straight away, saving the little startup a lot of headaches. Is this because of Sony having a reputation for supporting devs, have a less controlling approach to 2nd parties, had an earlier PR campaign with devs, or Phil Harrison had been putting the word around he was after something whizzo-prang, or what? This title is what I'd expect of a PS platform. Is that because the PS 'stereotype' attracted the devs, or Sony go great guns to push diversity in their exclusives?

Maybe because Sony has given some its first party devs. complete creative freedom. Or Sony's support for other new original ideas, like what happened with the eyetoy.

I think these guys are ex-lionhead. I don't know if that says something, but it could.

At any rate, I think Sony is a good fit for them. Now let's hope the game fits the Playstation 3 audience, or else makes it grow to fit. If the game doesn't sell enough copies, Sony better lower the PS3 price to 299 euro/dollar asap to correct any possible wrongs. ;)

I'll certainly lobby for this game among my colleagues. Should be able to sell it at the very least to those with kids and those with gaming spouses!

They told the reason themselves, Sony throws the best parties, and having watched one, from the outside, they swore they would one day be a part of it.

Only that they wanted to try their own thing. We haven't heard complaints from Lionhead regards MS and they went first-party in the end.

I don't recall that one, though I'm sure that wasn't the entire reason ;). Then again, maybe that was the only deciding factor between platform holders!

Wow, I just cannot wait for this...only weeks left now!

Having read the manual (something I rarely do!) I was dissapointed to notice a lack of music options...I'm sure we were told there would be lots of tunes and the ability to add your own music?

Also, it's a shame they didn't go into more details on 'harmful stuff'.

Other than that, this ticks all the boxes I could ever have wished for! :)

Was there something specific that brought you to consoles rather than continuing on PC?

MH: I wanted to at long last get a legitimate ticket to a Sony party. Seriously.

Did you consider any other consoles/publishers, or was Sony your first choice?

MH: Sony have the best parties.

:)

You may be right. Media Molecule was founded January 2006. Lionhead was acquired by Microsoft in June 2006. Not sure if there's overlap. There would be some experience with working with Microsoft through Fable I, but that's a small thing.

More likely perhaps was a combination of Playstation still being THE brand for console development before it was clear that the Wii and 360 were making some big inroads, and Sony (Europe!) indeed having a very good reputation for supporting new ideas with a lot of weight.

The party one is a great non-political answer though! :)

No, not your own music. The back of the manual list the music tracks, about 30 including in-house created ones. Some of these tracks (all? Only the in-house ones?) offer separate component tracks, so you can mix up the audio in various fashion.

The manual also doesn't go into detail on anything much at all, but it is all in there! Electricity, poisonous clouds, crushing Sackboys and explosives - plenty to scare the little canvas critters!

I think another team should take SackBoy to Mainichi Issyho. I have been waiting for that non-game to come to US since day 1. Having SackBoy doing news and weather forecast like Toro in Mainichi would be a blast. The news can be contributed by authorized sources, or even vetted user posts like in blog sites.

They can appear as "home video" in LittleBigPlanet's Home Space (and then you can take it to your own apartment).

Or in Life with Playstation. It'd be kinda cool to click on Paris and get a little French Sackboy reading you the days news.

 I can see it now... The backdrop will show local cultures and collectibles too. If they do this, I'll just leave my PS3 on throughout the day as news stream in from different places (plus background music).

On the one hand that's a cool idea, but it's also pushing the boundaries of Sackboy beyond what they're suited to IMO. Do you really want a cute little Sackboy telling you so many people are dead in a flood and war continues ad infinitum around the world? Sackboy everywhere would be very bad. Keep it on LBP and with some PS3 reference, but don't dilute it into a 21st century Mario can't-get-away-from-the-damned-things type mascot. Too much of a good thing makes you puke...

Yeah no... but the news team will have to package it like how the Toro team do it now, and then some (Toro is cute too !). They can also show snippets of real anchors where necessary. I think ultimately it depends on the audience. Today we have "alternate" news sources because of shifting tastes and demography. In the larger picture, getting gamers interested in real life and worldwide affairs is not a bad thing. :p

Good point Shifty, still they could do something like have Little Big News links/option when you search on a location. In that way it's more a choice than in your face. It'd be a neat way to integrate submitted local created user content. I'd be happy to give you an irreverent Sackboy view of the local Chicago scene.

Pretty creative marketing:

The design competition will feature over 120 students from various disciplines. Their task? To create the "most inventive and challenging" game levels within a 24-hour period for LittleBigPlanet. The levels will be judged by a Media Molecule panel and various school faculty. Winning level swill be feautred in a special Parsons section within LittleBigPlanet when it launches in October.

Can these properties be linked to other controls though?

in an august interview

How dark can we make a level? Can we control the degree of darkness throughout the level(such as making the sun rise when the player reaches a certain point)?

You can make it pitch black if you like. You could fake the sun rising with some cunning switches and light objects….
