What makes you say that? I think the problem here is the game spans three concepts - Create, Play and Share

I didn't see Create or Play in that video. I saw Dressup, Decorate, and Autopilot (and Avatars That Never Stop Shaking). But perhaps this movie is just not a good example.

When I think of creating levels, I think of placing obstacles and interactive objects in the vein of The Incredible Machine or Lemmings. When I think of playing what was created, I think of having jumping and interaction puzzles, not "ride the boat we just decorated".

The movies shown before had all of that - and didn't have nearly as much pointless fluff on the avatars themselves. I can see that they've added a lot of detail to the game since E3, but none of the additions look to have improved gameplay. Maybe I had the wrong impression of what kind of game it would end up as.

Watching that video, I feel like LBP1 should have been released in August with its simple essential gameplay intact, and all of this "Game 3.0" fluff could have waited a year for LBP2 or tacked on as DLC.

If you look carefully, the 2 Sacboys are trying to jump and collect "balls" from mid-air shelves while the ship sails through rough "water" (See 1:07 - 1:10).

I think the video simply shows further work the team has done (More personalization and more machineries/engines). The improvement in gameplay includes a mobile stage (i.e., The ship)

So you think they've removed all that stuff? :???:

I'm obviously old-fashioned with games because for some reason I want the, you know, creative types to do the creating so I can just sit down and enjoy a game. The idea of messing around doing it myself leaves me cold. LBP certainly looks nice but I can't say the gameplay attracts me from what I've seen in the odd trailer here and there.

Still, I suppose it takes all sorts. I've never been in the slightest bit interested in Sims-style games or RTS either for that matter.

In this case, the gamers who are the 'creative type' will create the levels, while the rest can vote and enjoy their work... like UT mods i guess.

I really wish I knew where that vid was in which the Media Molecule guy says categorically that for those who just want to play the game, they'll have a disc full of premade levels...

It's probably around here somewhere. But it's true, I remember that.

yup...they'll have premade levels. Plus other devs have said they are interested in making levels for their games. Eg. Jaffe and a GOW level.

Yeah, I was saddened too. I hope they spend the additional time on controls and play testing. Best if they observe Playstation Home first since it has similar social elements but is a non-game. Then tailor LBP to focus on the co-op and competitive gaming aspects.

At least I know it's coming. ;)

I'm already encouraged by seeing cool, minor genres like Eye of Judgement (and SingStar, I guess--whenever it gets to where REAL people live :p ) and Time Crisis (with other light gun games on the way) hit the platform, as well as different kinds of games, "artistic" and "experimentation..."

I'll be plenty happy with what I have right now until the rest shows up, and it's not like I don't suck most of my free time away on the PC anyway... Heh.

I think people will slowly warm up to the varied PS3 game library. LittleBigEventualPlanet will always have a place in my collection.

For now, I am putting my money into SingStar, Valkyria of Battlefield, plus other big titles (GT5P, FF, MGS, DMC, ...). Still thinking whether to buy Burnout and one baseball game (waiting for joker454's title to be shown, and MLB the Show).

PS3 is the ultimate 'eventually' machine.

I'm fine with that as long as it is also the ultimate 'now' machine, which to me it is. That it still has potential growth, no problem with that either, but right here and now, I'm enjoying it immensely.

By the way, I love that new US PS3 add ... it's the perfect add, really, imho, in general but especially for the US audience. If the decision to change add companies was made on a concept version of this add, then no wonder this company won!

Seems to be universally loved too.

Same here. I'm immensely enjoying the games and movies I already own, and have a rather large list of titles which I am currently considering to purchase a few select titles from (after reading some reviews and playing some demos) as well as the huge list of upcoming games that make this the best current and future platform for me at least.

I love the new ad as well. I think it really brought the PS3 to my attention when I was considering my HDTV purchase. Prior to that I had almost no reason to get a PS3, as XBox360 seemed to have the superior lineup, but I have zero regrets about my decision thus far. PS3 just gets better with each new game release and firmware update. I love the features they keep adding, and PSN/Playstation Store is a great way to kill some time in between major titles.

Agreed, that new advert is awesome. How come we dont get that?

There really isn't another option, is there? :p

Just like Wii doesn't offer other options ? The game library defines the console's personality. Once people realize that the library offers a wide array of unique experiences (Blu-ray and PSN games), they will recognize PS3's value. Unfortunately, it takes time to experiment and realize new concepts; some will reject them at first or perpectually. But some, even newcomers, will appreciate them.

The regular space aliens, war zone, large RPG frachises will still be there to support the console. So I don't think the wider variety is anything negative at all.

Speaking from personal experiences, one gets to enjoy more variety of gameplay, that's all. Last week, a friend came to me for advices... he characterized Wii as a kid's platform, 360 as a violent/hardcore game platform, but he does not know what PS3 offers (Sony >_<). After running through my PS3 games with him, his conclusion was that PS3 seems to offer more kinds of games. Yes, that kind of effect.

EDIT: Back on topic, for LBP delay... would be nice if we get the entire year's release schedule. That way we can also see the planning that went be behind the scheduling (Are the games squished into fall again ?).
