They only have 3 months left between now and their Japan launch (minus the holiday season). I doubt we will get any more update in this timeframe. They should be busy merging all their different subsystems into one, and polish.

The 370Z road car is even tougher -- probably because it's using N3 tires.
My current best are:
1'39.447
1'51.946
3'31.393 combined

Ranked 16th in Canada.

The demo (is this a demo then?) didn´t blow my head visually speaking, relative to what I saw in Prologue. But is solid, it´s near 1080p and the shader magic in cars is there. Just that I remember courses in Prologue (Suzuka for instance) were more detailed (grass, even some textures).

Phisics have been improved... more forces seems to affect the car or, al least, they´re more clues of what is going on. The cockpit view is just the best in bussiness, from my point of view. Detailed and inmersive.

Performance-wise is fair to say that the ghost car forces the output of some torn frames sometimes. The screen tear is minimal and it shows just in exceptional situations but... I have a clue of why it happens. The small size of the demo maybe implies that the version of the car with worse LOD is not downloaded, thus forcing the engine to draw two "too detailed cars" at the same time. Who knows...

The fact is that kind of tear happened in Prologue too. The engines seem really similar.

I really don´t know if Polyphony is hiding something. I´ve heard of really cool improvements in the damage modelling already shown in TGS, just rumours, but cool stuff anyway.

Yamauchi seems so self-confident... who knows.

Could be the (hyphotetical) step-back of the graphic engine a must in order to get the damage model up and running? The weather effects that PD are testing need just too much computer processing?

I´ve always thought that a game like Prologue could never have variable weather conditions in a hardware of 2005. Just it seems beyond belief.

Actually going by PD themselves it is the GT5 demo. And ~220MB package size (probably compressed to) is decent for a single track, 2 cars and few music tracks. If you think about it most demos tend to have several videos and promo videos making up for a quite big part of demo packages.

Also this track is kinda oval so from any edge of the track you should be able to see the other side of the track so in short pretty much the whole track needs to be rendered in several spots. IMO seems they are going for stable perfomance with more complex physics instead of the reverse.

I assume the obsession with such a minor semantic issue has everything to do with using this rather underwhelming 219 MB download as a way to undercut expectations of the graphics and performance of GT5:the full game? That's the slant I'm getting from all of your posts on the matter, that the "GT5 demo" qualifier stamped onto an unambitious track with performance drops is a great opportunity to bring GT5 down a peg.

When using the bumper cam I noticed that there is now a set of four icons showing among others fuel, oil, pits and traction control (I think its those at least). Don't think I saw them before in Prologue, but they are much like GT4 of course. Still, I'm SOOOO looking forward to having races online with fuel consumption, tire wear and pit-stops ... the release date is disgustingly far away, and I'm sure that I'll be importing the Japanese version again as usual.

Anyway, had two sessions today, totalling about 1 hour I think. I must say that I really had to get used to this after coming from Forza 3, but after today's short session I had much less trouble today.

My current times:

1'39.525
1'51.684
----------
3'31.209

Which currently ranks me 78th in the Netherlands.

As opposed to the magic demo version that will look like the bullshots and tiny offscreen shots, yes?

Ehmm I mean it looks basically like GT5p but most likely has some enhancements. So I dont see the problem as GT5p is hold high due to it's graphic right, right?

Then it is just a track and 2 cars and no videos. Yeah 220MB compressed doesn't sound so small with this in mind. And the GT5p demo size doesn't say much when it includes min 5 HD videos, 73 cars, 5 tracks, yeah that sure is going to be a quite big package. And what more to say than that PD themselves label it as GT5 demo?

One car only (unless you want to count the ghost ?)

I wouldn't worry about the visuals for GT5 Academy. The full game is supposed to have more cars on-screen (Up to 16 ?). People have seen and played more complex GT5 tracks also. There're definitely untapped resources in the demo. We will have more things to gawk at when the game finally delivers.

GT5P is 5-6Gb in size (About 2.1-2.2Gb without the HD videos). The game assets are compressed on HDD. So it's hard to gauge the relative size between GT5P and GT5 Academy.

It's a demo alright, but it doesn't contain the full package.

EDIT: I personally think it's a good idea to have players test out their new physics system. However, I'd have picked a different context to do it. A real-life competition works too I guess. Since PD needs to handpick someone who's godly at real racing after all these simulated/fake races.

This is addicting... the more I play the more I find better ways at taking certain corners. Managed to take almost a full second off my combined time. After driving the stock car for a while then going to the tuned car, it handles like a dream. Doing so allowed me to take off some time off my tuned time.

Currently ranked 48th in Canada. Surprised to see such good sim players in Canada... a lot of times right up there with the best times in Europe.

The tuned version has a body kit, and I think different wheels. I am not sure how they go about adding stuff like wings, but it is more than just different paint.

Good stuff. I managed to squeak just under that as my son was playing.

I only just now noticed that you can adjust the TCS settings for the race car - I started with the regular car the first time, and TCS can't be changed (its on 7) there, so I didn't think to look if I could change it on the tuned car (where it is also at 7). I changed it to 1 and that helped me knock off quite a bit of time (so now at 1'38.7 or so). Also marginally improved my stock car time to 51.4 with a total of a low 3'30.2 ... This puts me at 65th in The Netherlands. Compared to the number one there should be something like 3 seconds per event in there yet, which is crazy - I'll have a look at their ghosts and see where they are cutting corners. :devilish: ;)

EDIT: Got in a good session

I haven't looked at the replays in detail yet, but looking at the ghost in the distance ( :) ) it scarily just seems to be down to taking each and every corner a little bit better. Basically that's 2 seconds spread over 12 corners that I need to work on ...

Anyway, it's clear that TCS needs to be off completely on that Tuned car I think.

Playing this game I am starting to see why ppl want flashy graphics and damage. At least something would happen when I smash into the wall or some tires repeatedly :(

Nice times mate! I shall use your times as my aim..........I`ll try the TCS off also, thats a big reduction on your previous tuned time!.....

I shall report my findings .....later!

What would of been great, was if PD could of had a compare times with friends feature.............but, hopefully the final product will have all the online functions available.

I tried the game briefly. I actually like this more than GT5P for the simple reason that the car is more responsive. For the life of me, I couldn't get my GT5P cars to drift (None of them !). Over here, I could do it like my first rear-wheel drive car.

I completed the untuned car loop. My timing shall remain buried forever.
