The GT5 expectation thread (including preview titles)*

May I remind you that we have an actual comparison thread?

Here's the basic rule that I'd use. If I'd make a post (this one excepted ;) ) that contains the phrases Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo, then it belongs in the comparison thread. If I make a post that only refers to one of these two, then it belongs in the game specific threads.

We can do a lot of nice comparisons if we want to very soon, because four out of the five selectable cars are also in GT5 Prologue. And while GT5 will probably look slightly better than Prologue (TGS build seems to me to have better reflections and shadows and with higher refreshrates) I don't think the final game will look that different from Prologue, so it's a good first indication of the differences and similarities.

Not in this thread though!

EDIT: no, actually the comparison thread has been closed. Foolish me. Should maybe make one again though - it's rare that we'll be able to so directly compare the same car models in a game like this. ;)

I don't know about you, but from that poor quality offscreen replay video you can't even see much car detail. For one the car never gets close enough to the camera to do any real comparison to the CGI video which has lots of close-up zooms. Also the car is always passing the camera at speed.

You don't want to know. ;)

Buildings look totally flat low polygons, like cardboard boxes with low resolution textures slapped on.
Yes, because the 'other' game has much better looking city environments, right? You've managed to pick out the one thing that looks just average and that's the only comment you make regarding the video.

Edit: I realize there's a comparison thread, but when comparisons get made in THIS thread, I'm gonna reply here.

Watch the the GT5 replay video again, then watch the "other" video. I'm sorry to disappoint you but the city in GT5 video is underwhelming. Go read the other thread and watch ingame video with Lambo in city.

Yes I DO want to know. The buildings are far and the quality of the video isnt the best ever. I dont know why are making an issue out of it.

Especially when there is also a London track where buildings are close and show great detail.

Look dude, if you want to discuss the other game go to the OTHER thread. I'll gladly POINT you to the video.

It is YOU who is making a big deal out of this because for some reason my opinion don't mesh with yours. You seem to have a problem with that.

To be fair, the city in the GT5 video is a ported from probably GT4 assets. The london city is a lot more complex and is a GT5p created track (from scratch). I'm sure there will be tracks with more effort and some with less behind them.

You can pm me...dude. You told me that I dont want to know. Well I dont understand why I wouldnt want to. Was it supposed to hurt me or something? And in what way would you dissapoint us? Who are you? Some important personality?
:???:

We are all the same here.

And NOW I dont understand why you are so upset and make all these assumptions about me having a problem here. :???:

Thank you! That's exactly what it looks like, but I had a feeling that if I had said it looked like GT4 backgrounds, I would've been called a troll...:LOL::rolleyes:

Point being you didnt need to compare it to the "other" game, comparing tracks from GT5p may have been more appropriate. Not that constant comparisons with F3 bother me but i think others are getting annoyed with it.

A lot of the anoyance is probably from the tone of your posts rather than strictly the content...

btw im not having a go, just a friendly observation.

Those new IGN shots are absolutely astounding! In terms of lighting, reflection or car shaders, it is pretty much second to none. Also that Ferrari replay actually bears striking similarity to the tribute trailer graphically. Can't wait to see the newly revised London track if PD are not being mom about it.

They said they are going to revise it?

I have to admit, I didn't really look at the video that close, but I do know that the London track in GT5p is very impressive, even to this date. I also seem to remember that GT4 was very unconsistent in its graphics. On one hand, it looked incredible in some tracks (the newly created ones, for that game), while some of the other tracks that dated back to GT3 or even the PSone days underwhelmed. I'm not sure how much of that still applies here in GT5, but I would think that the tracks that were already in GT4 would be probably used in GT5 and then gradually upgraded with better assets etc. I wouldn't be surprised however, if the London (and the new Bern/Switzerland city track) will remain the biggest show cases for the technology while other tracks like Tokyo will continue to underwhelm even when the game finally comes out...

PS: WHere's that comparison thread? Was it removed? I can't find it.

Well they did say the full version will be a lot bigger with new updates, so you will expect changes.

Well that London track looked very impressive as it was. I am really curious to see what kind of changes they can make to improve the visuals considering that they are trying to do so many things. 1080p and all that detail sure aims high and reduces the room for improvement

Did they show head tracking in TGS 2009 ?

I heard they also revised the number of damage-able cars to "all cars" ? Is that correct ?

Thanks. I feared as much. Not ment to be overly critical, but it's real shame that a technology forum can't (is not allowed to) compare two games. I would also much rather have the comparison talk in the comparison topic, rather then have it slip into the game-related topics as they do now and disturb those that want to focus on the game itself. I would post this in the appropriate thread... but ironically, that one's closed.

It's not as if I care which game looks better - but historically, the most interesting and technological enlightening topics on this board were the comparison topics. This feels so very mid-age.

Haven't seen any headtracking yet, also there was a blurry video showing a Ferrari gets damaged but as far as things go, nothing is confirmed.

Probably more interactive objects on the road, maybe a Double Decker passes by at the distance or some weather effects perhaps? I wonder if the ICE Team would lend them a hand too.
