The Big Forza 2 Thread *

Looking at some vids, it looks like there is going to be a fair amount of popin with the reflections. Doesn't look that bad though, and hopefully it will be better in replays (they still look like they are full speed, so that is a good tradeoff).
As far as I know Che has stated that they are still working on that.

Wow, those shots are ... terrible! Except for an occasional lighting effect and a slightly higher resolution, it looks a lot like that Xbox GT game by Sega. :( Joshua's words ring painfully true in these shots. Hopefully this is partly because of lousy screen capturing, and I'm sure the game looks better in motion. At times it seems to almost look worse than the original Forza.

Texture filtering is excellent. For in-game shots, that is worlds above other racing games out there, to me this is very important - and I think will be very different when viewing the game first hand, not simply watching a video - which compresses all that detail away. It absolutly destroys the likes of PGR3 in this respect.
The texture detail is very, very high. Everthing is exceedingly sharp. The texture filtering helps here too.
There are some extremly good transitions.

- The road texture is very sharp, especially given the skid marks.
- The painted strips are very well done. Smart use of noise.
- The transition to the grass is 'rough'. It's not a straight line. Yeah ok it's not 'accurate' but it's still a damn sight better than this.
- lots of clever use of pattern masks for transparent objects. Trees in perticular. Looks horrific in a still but in motion on a TV it will look fine. (think saints row etc)
- even simple things like the guard rail along the side look very 'real' to me.

honestly I don't know what I'd change about that image. Yes. You could layer on a bunch of effects and filters, but then you'd end up with Dirt, which looks great in a still, but in motion it can become a horrible blurry/bloomy/brown mess.

I don't know why you are posting GTR pics. Other than the high amounts of AA They certainly don't look better imo.

Check the ground textures outside the fence on the left. Pretty isnt it  (or were you talking about textures somewhere else...)

Its actually spelled Nürburgring ;) Also, this pic is actually the Corkscrew from Laguna Seca.

The other 2 photos arent nurb either

Uhh, thats from the CG trailer. Thats no way in hell an ingame footage

Extra! Extra! Brand new pics from Forza 2.
- FSAAx2 in-game
- FSAAx4 during replays
I dont get this. For 4xAA in native 720p the game have to use tiling yes? And with the bandwidth of the eDRAM 4xAA should come for free, so why use 4xAA only during replays?

I'm guessing some of those posting in here will never even see this game the way it is intended; playing it on a 360/HDTV but will forever and always claim it looks like crap based on these screens.

I'll just wait a couple weeks and see for myself while some of you step over yourselves looking for flaws in a static screen of a game designed only to be seen in motion at 720p.

Che has already confirmed (well, most likely) final specs. The basic and main characteristics of the game includes:

- FSAAx2 in-game
- FSAAx4 during replays

With some extreme pestering I was able to get Che to spill the beans over at GAF, 2xAA it is, ahh well not the end of the world, the game still looks gorgeous in motion.

Nice new ingame shot:

I hate that turn with a passion, reminds me of Forza 1, and the moron in the Lingenfelter Corvette that always slammed into me there. The improved AI will be very much appreciated.

The days of static screenshots being useful for comparison seem to be slowly coming to an end, it's all about what it looks like in motion.

I DEFINITELY hear you on that one!

I never concieved the difference in visual impact would be so great between actually lookling at some screens online (doctored ones in most cases..) and sitting in front of the game to see it in motion.. I don't even have a HDTV and i'm playing my Xbox360 titles on a 19" monitor and still I look at screens for games like Lost Planet and then when I see it in motion it's a whole new ball game altogether..

In the end it just confirms to me something that I've known since the days of the PS2; Pictures and even videos of video games seen on the net are never really representative of what you'll see when your playing the game for real and chances are in real-life/motion it will look a whole lot better..

However it doesn't make it any less entertaining for us to nit-pick at pixellation issues and the dreaded jaggies seen on overly compressed or poor quality pics/vids :D

It's what helps us sleep at nights you know!

Yeah a bit blurrier than this (image below) with the difference being how close the bluriness is...

I guess the bluriness fools some to think it looks CGish (bluriness = CG?)!!! ;)

Dev walkthrough 2, 3 and 4 with real-time gameplay that looks like the "CGish" ss.

Absolutely!

also coming to an end with the addition of the XBL Gamertag is people claiming that the actual game looks like crap after never having played it. ;)

Now you can see proof if they even own the console they're criticizing and/or if they even had the game in their console's tray... ever.

(for those without a 360, the machine tracks every game you have ever played and it's linked to your GT which you can view on your 360 or on Xbox.com)

I never compared the outside textures head to head didnt I? :p (I never once mentioned praising GTHD in that part ;) )

That was a trailer from E3(or TGS?). I just dont remember if that trailer was real time or CG. If its real time, then la di da, my bad. From your post, I guess its not CG so I might aswell dismiss that idea *takes note*.

hehe but that's the only way to know if it really is bad compared to what is released so far (car games only).

Anyways, back to Forza, here's another really nice direct feed ingame shot:
http://xs114.xs.to/xs114/07181/thestigslambo.jpg

Check out the scenery, road detail, AF etc...If it wasn't for the jaggies it would be drop dead gorgeous, I sure hope those don't come through as strong in the retail game.

Damn, I hope that AA is a bit better in game. That's a bit distracting. Then again, I use the "see all road" view when playing but coming up to pass cars, a bit cleaner would be nice.

Damn, I hope that AA is a bit better in game.
What AA? ;)

A haven't really been keeping up with this thread, but a while back I heard a rumor they were dynamically switching from 4xAA to 2xAA and then to no AA if need be to maintain consistant framerate, has anyone heard anything else about that?

You know what? I retract all my subpar statements the last 4-5 pages (too late to edit them :p )

I agree with you on that one. For example, I wasnt so amazed by motorstorm by the screens and videos(HD/SD/whatever) online, but seeing the game in person (demo build @ bestbuy  ) gave me a whole nother respect and feeling for the game.

In my early posts in this thread, I kept stating that I prefer gameplay over graphics in these kinds of games. I dont know why I got carried away in gfx prostitution, but im willing to leave the dark side now :devilish:

So these screens, ah **** them. Im sure when im playing the game, I can care less about pointing out lack of things every 2 secs and enjoy my motor swapped vehicle
