The Big Forza 2 Thread *

Look at the red circle with white line running through it. It's obviously very washed out in the first pic. So is the majority of the HUD.

These are items that are not effected by the lighting. They are part of the HUD and should look exactly the same in every picture. The fact that they don't shows that there is a big problem with the contrast in the picture, not in the game.
I'm not sure what you're tryingto say here. I wasn't complaining about the contrast in the second pic, that I agree is likely a fault of exposure. I ws just saying that pic 3 doesn't show the car from pic 2 as any better because the faults I found in pic 2 were mostly hidden in pic 3 due to the contrast. Get a better shot with better contrast where the car shader is visible and it'll likely look as wrong as in pic 2.

there are some reflections on this unbelievably chrome paintwork that simply cannot have the colors they seem to have (pink clouds on a silver chromatic surface, anybody?)
They're actually pale blue ;) I imagine they're accurately coloured for the clouds reflected, but that doesn't make for an accurate looking again. Again, I think the car shader needs work. Lose the saturation and blur out the reflections a bit maybe. Dunno quite what to fix, but something needs fixing!

Look at the trees. Very NICE!

I am not that impressed by these latest pics. To me it looks like a slightly upgraded Forza Motorsport 1 in these.

Anyways. I am not that interested in this game. I playied the first and didnt like it at all. I felt like something was lacking in the realism of the driving experience.

....

always good to recycle some pics (these are from Gek) on the internet to prove/knockout a point....
so here's tsukuba cirquit on both games:

edit:
of course always take notice that we are comparing the pics of a finished game to those of a graphically unfinished game.
there are only improvements ahead for forza2.
for example it was announced that tarmack textures will be mucho overhauled until the game is done.
they looked great to me, but I'm not complaining here 8)

Thats definetely not the improvement I am expecting to see. Still looks like a small upgrade from FORZA1 to me.

Ofcourse I am only judging the current state of the game

All X06 accounts are this was incredibly early. Most sites wouldn't even comment on it because it was too early. Just some assets slapped together I think 1up called it.

They have some work for 60fps.
yeah, sure....nobody said its running at a stellar 60fps yet

but judging from those videos it seems like they dont have as much work as
darkness -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5p8878CQHwU
and even
pro evo -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOkTLzyjZcs

oh, funny, I think thats the same crew filming with that same filming equipment... ;)

so if these two games in reality run at a constant 30 or a 60, what does that make of forza? 120fps?

 wow! maybe someone should slap those who take such comments for facts then. is that shane domain stuff we are discussing here?
I mean, of course say whatever you want, but just dont expect me to take "hey, they just slapped on some stuff" for serious...

then show me a bigger improvement than this please.
 else, I might show you a lesser improvement
everything MUST have a point of relation somewhere. dont you think so?

If you have to pose Forza 1 on the Xbox in order to show that Forza 2 on the 360 does look better, Turn10 already lost the battle. I've yet to be impressed by the graphics of this game. They're not bad, but they're not amazing either.

Too, everytime new screenshots come out, Che posts about how such-and-such a system just came online and it makes the game look so much better than the pictures indicate. Well, fine, whatever, but how the HECK can they claim 4x AA at 60 fps when they haven't had these systems online before?

If I think of another racing game that got a sequel in a next gen console with real improvement I will.

Now if you feel offended because I noticed this with Forza too is not my problem

Don't forget that Forza 1 ran with 30fps -I believe- and Forza2 is supposed to run with 60 fps.

Exactly my question. They had a laundry list of features (60fps at 720p with 4xMSAA, HDR, GI, etc and so forth) so you would think that in the initial stages, or at least before E3 2006 when they announced such, they put the system through the wringer with some test models to make sure their renderer could do all those effects on the targetted models. A couple weeks ago they said they couldn't do this shot or that shot because something was not implimented. Typically you hear things are disabled due to performance (but present in PR shots), but it seems with Turn 10 a lot of this stuff isn't even developed/compatible yet even for still shots.

I am gonna ease up on this game to maintain Scoob's sanity ;) Only fair seeing as they have *officially* delayed the game as of X06 (I am so behind on news). Not really Turn 10s fault that MS pushed CGI (although it is T10s for claiming they could get close), or that MS gave a release date obviously too short, or have forced early/poor screen shots. This is slipping into 2007 (March) so they have an extra 4 months. Even the new bad screen shots look better than just 2 weeks ago (which makes me ask: How was it not possible to get a still shot 2 or 3 weeks ago with grass, but now they have versions, albeit choppy, with such?)

There is some promise in those shots, but it has a far way to go to live up to the expecations.

That said, are they going to go for a Toca 3 style damage system? I quite liked how Toca had each panel, hood, tire, the engine, gearbox, etc all have their own unique "damage" monitor. e.g. Your car could be great sans the rear bumper you keep trashing, or the left door is dinged up, or the right front tire is getting a little thin because you hit that tire on some gravel on accident, etc...

I ask because the pictures seem to be VERY canned (as Arwin pointed out). e.g. Who scratches the top of the hood?? Maybe that is the dust effect... but I am hoping, like Toca, damage can be part specific... and stuff can even fall off.

Ps- Some of my annoyance with this game is the same with Motorstorm. The screens obviously don't look like the CGI, but I have seen a number of posters here and there who think it either looks like the CGI or... even better  And of course the developers/publishers don't help when they either say the CGI was realtime, inengine or when they say they will get very close to the CGI...

Maybe it was a 15fps camera that video was taken with.

Even if it was, I know someone who played it at X06 and the framerate was very bad. But this is why MS requested NO pictures and NO video as the game is still early in development and now a 2007 title.
