Well, I do to (and would love to exchange also)... but I'm pretty sure it'll be a different SKU altogether. That may or may not effect your strategy for exchange; remember it's 2008 for N America. I imagine it will release around the same time MGS4 does or something.

They'll have it to lay down until Spring 2008 when DS3 comes out in the US/Europe.

Japan will have it in time for GT5 (Prologue). And the US doesn't seem like it will have GT5 until 2008 anyway since GT5-P is December for Japan.

Thanks Carl. I get a bit annoyed by the Japan getting things first. I know it's home soil or whatever but frankly, I could give 2 shits. All I know is that I'll have to wait while someone else enjoys it for a while before me. Not too cool with that.

Overall, my feeling is that they'll try to just ride out 2007 and launch an all out assault starting Spring 08.

Maybe they'll drop the price to $399 this winter but I'm not sure the loss would justify the gain in volume especially if they feel that a price cut in 2008 along with a strong libraby can make up for it.

I wonder whether the large gab between releasing the DS3-pack in the different territories is because NA and Europe is still stuffed with the old skus. They are still selling 20GB model in Japan, so maybe the chain is quite empty there, which allows the new sku to appear so much before anywhere else.

Or maybe it will take a long time to ramp up production of the new controllers.

Even though the installed base isn't that big, they'd still have to produce millions and it's not going to happen overnight.

So unless it really enhances gameplay, is it worth the reduced battery life?

Will this new controller (I'd named it "Sixaxis Shock" or somesuch myself to capitalize on the PS3-exclusive brand for its wireless controller but whatever ) use that improved and more precise rumble motor that was discussed in the other thread?
