(T.V.) Is having an additional 9 inches for an extra $2000 worth it?

LunchBox

I was browsing through newegg and i found these two T.V.s

I'm interested in getting one of these...

will use it mainly for PC gaming and console-gaming...

key difference of comparing is mainly the size, features, brand and lastly, the price.

I've never heard of sceptre... has anyone tried any of their products?

the price is quite enticing...

any input regarding this would be greatly appreciated :)

The Sceptre seems to have better brightness and contrast, contrast being very important in the LCD world. I haven't heard much about Sceptre, but here's a 40 page thread at avsforum to waste your entire day.

And if you haven't wasted enough time, here's a 64 page thread on Sharp 45" LCDs.

Part 2: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=544349
I scanned both those threads, and it looks like the Sharp may not accept a 1920x1080 signal over the HDMI port. The Sceptre looks like it does handle a 1920x1080 signal. It seems there might be a hack for the Sharp, but you'd have to read more.

It looks to me like the Sceptre is probably a better buy. The Sharp looks like a nice TV, but I personally wouldn't pay $2000 more for it.

Have you looked at projectors at all? I'm not sure what your situation is, but for at or below $2000 you could pick up a Sanyo Z4 or Panasonic AE900. Both are very good projectors, and you'll be able to bump that screen size up to around 100" :)

I'm hoping to get a Z4 in the next month or two.

thanks for the input and the links!!!

you're a godsend :)

sceptre does look like the better buy :)

thanks again for all the help!

I can almost imagine LunchBox writing the post title without the T.V -part and then going "Douh, L-B and others would love that subject."

I have enough inches already, but no guy in his right mind would say no for another 9 for only $2000! Sounds like a bargain to me. ;)

Seriously tho. A TV 9" wider - well actually not even 9", because it's the diagonal that's measured - for $2000 extra sounds a bit steep to me. But then again if one has the money to blow...

Personally I wouldn't buy a no-name product for these amounts of money, at least not over teh intarweb anyway. Who knows how the quality of finish and build is? If the unit looks plasticy and creaks when handled and maybe breaks in a few months' time or maybe a year, suddenly it wasn't such a great deal anymore...

ABSTINENCE IS THE ONLY WAY FORWARD.
