Spider-Man 2 [PS5, PC]

it's not matrix awakens density, but i would think it would be that close

Yeah, my gripes with image quality in performance mode aside, there's no denying the sheer scope of this game. Especially after upgrading your slingshot ability, getting launched to view the entire city as you soar around never gets old. Doesn't matter what I'm doing, I see that slingshot icon I'm making a beeline for it.

yeah i don't understand the bashin on the internets, it looks really great 90% of the time, and there are for sure some rough spots, but like any other massive open world games.

I played SM2 most of yesterday so I've invested perhaps around twelve hours and have not yet got the symbiote suit so I don't know where that puts me in the main missions. Mostly I've just been zipping around doing whatever comes up and I'm absolutely loving this game and the set pieces battles have all been have all been fantastic and the way they've crested interesting and complimentary side quests that weave around the main narrative is very good.

Sandman, the river ambush of Scorpion and Mr Negative and the hunters trying to capture Tombstone at Coney Island

Whilst I've not finished it, SM2 is currently on my GOTY short list. It's a thoroughly entertaining romp through New York.

I´ve played this quite a bit since I got it this friday, and I think its amazing. I think gameplay wise Miles Morales improved upon Spiderman 1, and this seem to have improved upon it more. I think the graphics look amazing. The RT reflections make things look more natural. The lighting and GI look alot better, it looks more like new york than previous games. There also seem to be alot more going on. Im playing on fidelity, 120hz VRR, feels really smooth on my OLED.

My only complaint is that some of the writing can be a little, eeeh. Not like I-wanna-throw-up-in-my-mouth-bad like some of writing in ratchet and clank rift apart were, so thats a plus.

Mostly the music sounds like modern marvel movies music, but sometimes it sounds more like music aking to some 70s super hero show, and thats awesome. I´d like to hear more music like that. So far I´ve only heard it while doing a quest were Im solving a puzzle to fix the watering of plants or stuff like that. It would be nice the hear that theme kick in when spiderman is beating up punks in his classic suit.

From the little I´ve played, easily GOTY for me too.

I don't think I've played a game since Uncharted 2 that did 'action spectacle set pieces' better. You start out on a pretty big high with a massive boss battle and they just keep throwing these great encounters at you. It's truly a marvel.

I also dig the accessibility features with my favourite has to be the ability to toggle the game between 100% and 70% at the touch of the d-pad. Spider-Man 2's combat can overwhelm you at times. The baddies did not graduate from Orderly Queuing 101 at Videogame Badguy University, and a couple of positioning screw-ups or missing incoming maniac, robot, gunfire, bomb or missiles attacks can hammer your health fast. Rather than lower the difficulty, which I like, flicking to 70% provides a brief respite in which to quickly survey the battlefield and re-prioritise.

Yeah, the equivalent of the collapsing-crane scene in SM1 happens seemingly on an hourly basis now. It's nuts.

It's always been varying levels of cringe, but I find the annoying dialog is actually reduced quite a bit from the originals, at least so far. Miles and Peter both sound slightly less grating in this.
