Sony VR Headset/Project Morpheus/PlayStation VR

Sony just invested some money to H2L, a VR game controller startup spun off from the University of Tokyo.

Technical Overview said:
A motion sensor and an array of muscle movement sensors*1 are embedded into the UnlimitedHand. These components allow the wearer to input Hand and Finger movements into virtual environments. In addition, a multi-channel Electric Muscle Stimulation device*2 is built in to the device. This component contracts the muscles on the wearer’s forearm to simulate haptic feedback. Through integrating these technologies, players of VR games will be able to feel interact with objects or characters inside a game and feel physical impact coming from them in return.

Until now, hand held and button based game devices have been the main choice of controllers. However, when we develop for the medium of Virtual or Augmented Reality games, they may break the immersion that we value. UnlimitedHand confronts this by incorporating our hands into the gaming experience. It does this by linking movements of the hand with its virtual counterpart while returning haptic feedback whenever the game deems it necessary. With the UnlimitedHand, one will be able to experience the ricochet from a gunshot, or to pet on characters with their very own hands.

I bought the Apollo 11 experience.
It's pretty nice. Graphics are simple but decent enough, and IQ is very clear, not blurry at all.
I Wonder if it's running at a higher framerate than 60fps, because i don't notice the blur i see in 60fps games, it stays clear when moving, like thumper for example.

Good news

In time for the launch of Farpoint and the PSVR Aim controller, the PS4 System Software Update 4.50 will launch with tracking improvements that apply to objects tracked with the PlayStation Camera, including the Move controllers and the Aim controller. That’s according to developers working on PSVR and Farpoint during a session at GDC 2017 where it was also confirmed that Farpoint would launch on May 16th and include co-op.

When asked to detail the tracking improvements, the developers didn’t share specifics, except to say that the changes were derived from work with the Aim controller, but apply to tracking in general.

The improvements are also applicable to all PSVR games following the PS4 System Software Update 4.50 without requiring per-game updates. The developers cautioned that users shouldn’t expect major changes to tracking performance, but apparently felt the improvements notable enough to warrant mentioning during the session.

Does anyone have any DIY suggestions for protecting my PSVR from my glasses? I mean something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Deluxe-Rubb...829752?hash=item3d3518e7f8:g:oSIAAOSwux5YV7Yj

What material could be used to cut it out and apply with some light adhesive? I was thinking about the stuff you can put under furniture, but it needs to be thicker and softer

You think it's worth it? How long did it take you to 'complete' it?

i only did the spectator mode, might last less than hour.
it's still a bit expensive for what it is, but as an astronomy fan, it was still satisfying.

VR will be able to playback 3D BluRay from tomorrow! And also regular video should look better, apparently.

I really wanted this, so looking forward to this update a lot more now!

did not test 3D bluray as i have not one, but tracking seems indeed improved, so is the drift.
Are there any 3D videos compatible with the youtube app ? I could not find one.

I have some 10 of them, just tried the Lego movie and it's great. With 3D I am more inclined to use the max screen size than otherwise ... also very nice is that the regular screen output also supports 3D very nicely! So I could still watch in 3D with glasses while my wife had the PSVR on

There is at least some 3d (marketing) videos from vuze camera in youtube. Not sure if they will work on ps4. The videos are not very high quality which is kind of expected from a not so expensive yet to be released camera

Tried Gravity in 3d. One of the two 3d Blu Rays I own. It's pretty cool, but I don't think I wanna watch an entire film with the headset on. I don't think quadrupling the screen resolution per eye would change that, either. Wearing a headset while fully absorbed by an interactive game world is just not the same as experiencing something passive and inherently relaxing like a film. In the latter case, the funky contraption on your noggin quickly becomes a cumbersome nuisance.

And yes, tracking seems improved indeed.

Yes, it's been mentioned before. Its HDMI 2.0 (non-2.0a) limitation is also the most probable reason why people with PSVR and 4K HDR TVs need to manually switch the HDMI cables between TV and PSVR, which is utterly stupid.

I wonder how it would compare to switch, CPU wise
IIRC those Cortex A9 are clocked at 1.2GHz, so it's a lot worse. I think the Cortex A57 has something like >80% higher IPC than the very old Cortex A9.

Just buy some, they work great

I thought A57 were weaker cores but I am just really out of the loop :p
Guess I only remember Apple A9 destroying the competition so bad, Apple were taken to court in The Hague, so I figured A9 was superior, of course a soc name is not the same as an arm architecture :(

HDMI 2.0 is just to show how lame the standard is; even now there will be a new HDMI standard because they did not implement 'free sync' like specs...
