Sony Home - The official thread*

Wherever there was a woman avatar there were probably around 4 men avatars around "her" trying to chat.

Ha, I see that all the time. Like you I like to just walk around and listen to what people are talking about :D With Home, I am more inclined to talk to people because I can "see" them instead of just hear them. The social aspect is good IMO.

As for the theater, if you walk down to the screen you can select X to make it full screen.

Then the Plaza was filled with tons of people

That right there is the big difference between a limited Beta and the expanded beta / final version.

Woah, did they revamp us.playstation.com ? It's now cleaner and fully integrated with my PSN id.

The last intermediate changes made it into an awkward mix of PSN and playstation.com features. The new organization is definitely easier to navigate.

EDIT: Okay, found the heads up here... http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/11/19/playstationcom-continues-to-evolve/

Early next week, we’ll be integrating additional community features into PlayStation.com. We are excited to roll-out the first phase, which includes the ability to sign-in to PlayStation.com and, soon after, PlayStation.Blog with your PlayStation Network ID. Of course, your PlayStation Network ID gets you access to all the good things on the PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP, including games, movies and TV shows on the PlayStation Store, online gaming, and, soon to come for PS3, PlayStation Home.

In addition, we are making enhancements to the gamer profile features. Your profile will include your PSN online ID, your avatar, and a short “about me” section. You’ll also be able to display your friends list and, on the game detail pages, you’ll be able to include ratings and reviews for all of your favorite games. These features were created so that you can make new friends, learn new tricks and tips, talk trash, offer advice, console the defeated, praise the winners, and more.

I also got an invite to Playstation Home. I tried it for a bit and found it wasn't exactly my cup of tea, though I welcome the possibility of more 'interactive' socializing. There are various small things I think that can be fixed... for instance I didn't like how when I'm watching a video in the mall somebody can pop in front of the screen and spam my view with bubbles even though I was viewing it fullscreen.

On the technicals, it seems like graphically speaking its doing a fine job. Just lower the loading times for people so they don't stay invisible for quite as long, up the framerate, and it should be good to go...

This is my first time trying these 'virtual reality socializing' things so I have to still try it for a bit longer to see how I like it. My girlfriend was quick to point out the possibility of virtual cheating.

All in all though, I think they should definitely streamline the matchmaking/creating aspect of it.

Yeah I am trying to register my Playstation products though on the site and it tells me that the barcode is invalid :???:

Isnt it supposed to be the whole serial number that bar code?

Is it probably because I own a PAL PS3 and the site is US?

I tried it again the other day, to try out bowling, pool, and the arcades. Unfortunately, every single one of these activities was "in use" and I couldn't.

Why should I have to wait in line to play a video game in my own home?

You should file a bug for that.

The dialogs are meant for event videos (e.g., E3 keynotes) where users' input may be as fun as the presentatiobn itself. But you should be able to shut out these conversations.

I reckon it's because they intend to sell the items as your private (or clubhouse) collection.

I have no idea. I just use the search box and enter the games' name.

I was really surprised when I found out we have to wait in line to play bowling, pool or arcade games.
During a bowling session with a buddy a retard came and stood in front of us so we couldn't see. I guess he was trying to make us leave or something. :)

Really inconvenient way of doing things. Yet I find it one of the most interesting aspects of Home, and this mentality, though clearly risky, may very well be the reason Home will be successful as a social environment.

Online events like this: http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/11/24/hellboy-ii-bd-live-directors-chat-event-recap/ is perfect for Home.

There is a philospohical point within these sentences. Besides addressing the sharing issues among ourselves (like children do), just make your voice heard in the beta forum. Who knows, things might change. It's our community afterall.

The old ones ? I think they reset the environment, make everyone go to the default spaces to stress test the server setup, and will reintroduce the additional spaces later.

That stinks :( Oh well. Logged in, a lot hasn't changed, but a lot has. I set up a Club House for R2 fans (which apparently consists of only me...no surprise!). Hopefully as more invites roll out I can flesh out the Club more. I'd really like more furniture and custom things to make it a bit "darker". Having a Resistance Club in a nice clean white beach house just doesn't feel...right.

Yours is not the only R2 clubhouse. I have seen others. :)

What is the name of your R2 club ? ProjectAbraham ?

It is strictly a US focused site isn't it? Maybe that's the issue.

Hope we Euros get one soon. Three Speech doesn't quite cut it. On a wider note this is a good thing. I can't keep track of all the PS sites I'm registered at - there used to be a separate one for PSP which I haven't been to in years.

Ahh, thanks Gradthrawn.

Geez, I knew about that place but it too has had a major overhaul since the last time I saw it (a while ago).

Seems a little less focused on news and blogging; and there certainly doesn't appear to be as easily accesible by the public (submitting questions and so on).
