The average consumer will see the commercial thats been on lately, not comparing hand picked screenshots on a forum. The graphics in the clips shown in the commercial are amazing and the average consumer will prbably be amazed by them.

LOL. How can you compare a beatiful scenic view from PGR2 to a view of a FENCE from PGR3.

You know you could easily grab 20 screens form PGR3 that top one to shame, cherry-picking at it's finest.

Oh well, you guys have fun bashing a game that everyone from IGN, to Gamespot, to 1UP has absolutely raved about, and PGR3 goes on to sell millions. Meanwhile Forza 2 will be hitting next year to shut you all up.

Hey, I am the guy from http://www.halomovienews.com/xbox360.php

I like to visit all the forums where the traffic comes from.

Anyway, saying this is no better than PGR2 actually made me laugh out loud. I had to register just to say you are so, so horribly wrong.

    Carry on.

    Welcome!

Nice set-up too. You should have sold ad-space since so many people have linked your site you would be rich, rich I tell you!

And yes saying PGR3 looks no better than PGR2 is indeed laughable.

Well it kinda depends. Going by the jeux-france pics that claim to be PGR3, it does look similar. On that visible evidence alone it's a fair comment. Of course there's othe pics that look different, but I don't know any SDTV pictures from PGR3.

What would be nice is someone..anyone...with an XB360...anyone at all...and a 1 megapixel camera to grab a photo of it at 720p from a nicely setup tripod, and then a photo on SDTV at the same setup, to prove the point. Any external view on an SD set would be nice.

I'm pretty sure Cobra101 was being sarcastic. There are many less flattering pictures than those if he was serious.

perhaps.... i'm afraid the rabid fanbois on other forums have somewhat ruined my perception of sarcasm in such situations. you convice yourself that a post has to have been sarcastic or a joke only to find out that it's for real!

but anyway, back to the topic in hand; Does anyone here actually rate the Gotham TV idea? i can see it being a sort of gimmicky feature that i'll use once or maybe twice when i frist get the game, think "oh, that's neat" and then never touch again....

The Gotham TV thing is surprisingly awesome. There's just something cool about watching live races. YOu can view any of the racers from any of the in-game camera angles so you can see how they race. I already learned some pointers from this.

Or you can switch it to replay camera mode and watch it "TV style" - it's pretty cool.

Something like 20,000 people can watch a race at the same time. Should be cool when they have big tournaments in the future.

This thread shows us why a lot of the mainstream press are saying Xbox 360 hardly shows much improvement from the current gen.

When you have screen grabs like this
    http://www.jeux-france.com/Webmasters/Images/40691320051117_005727_3_big.jpg
its hard to argue that Xbox 360 offers much more than a bump up in resolution.

Fancy pictures rendered in photo mode will not represent what the game really looks like, whereas the unimpressive SD screengrabs are exactly what most will end up seeing at home on their TV.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. I haven't actually seen the game running in person yet (I'll try to check out some Xb360 kiosks later tonight), but I must say that in all the "screens" that seemed to be quite impressive to me all seem to be from photo-mode. All screens that are evidently from the in-game mode (the ones with the HUD) are leaving me pretty unimpressed. I'm aware though that bad captures can also lead to a flawed view and wouldn't necessarely do the game any justice, so I won't reach any conclusions until I see it running in person. If those screens from jeux-france are representative screen-grabs, I'm assuming the game is also rendered in 480p in SDTV mode?

Anyway, the game should look good pretty alright in motion thanks to the lighting. What does still disappoint me is the framerate (30fps as I suspected it would be) and it seems that the reflections are fake (I'm going by recent footage at night time through one of the city tracks in HD resolution). A shame really. The car selection is very nice and so seems to be the immersion from within the cockpit-view.

Daytime scenes look better than night. Did they take pictures of the cities only in the daytime?

As for Photo Mode, well, it's very hard to find PGR3 (and PGR2) in-game race scenes in major gaming media websites...

I really have a hard time believing those are from PGR3. Where's the lighting? Low resolution doesn't change the lighting and that picture is completely flat, much like a current gen game. Reflections, texture detail, all gone?!? I'm sorry but a resolutions change doesn't degrade the image that much.

Well, keep in mind the game does use blur which is maybe why the roads and everything else in those screens look so underwhelming...

Its also a 640 X 480 resolution with obvious compression to shrink it.

Therefore running on my HDTV at 720P or 1080i it will look nothing like that.

You also did a great job of picking out the single most plain and mundane image on the web. ANYONE can make any game seem less impressive visually if you try hard enough.

The truth is everyone who has seen it or played it raves on how good it looks. We are talking reviewers that are putting up scores, not a random poster on a random message board going out of their way to knock the game down.

    I give you a 4/10 for effort.
