SIXAXIS Rumble Confirmed By SCEA Employee

We can also confirm that new versions of the Sixaxis controller are quietly replacing the original controllers launched with the console.

What does this mean? That current PS3's have the new controllers?! Will one day, Sony turn on the motors to everyone's amazement, and a load of older customers chagrin?

It means there is a revision of the original Sixaxis that is being sold somewhere. It won't rumble, so no motors to turn on.

I, for one, would like to know where to find one of those as I am considering an additional controller.

i would wait for the rumble sixaxis.

I am not really a big fan of rumble, it gives me this weird feeling. ;)

Plus possibly low battery life and heavier controller are not things to look forward to, for me that is.

Of course it would be nice to actually try one before making a judgment but God knows when it is coming.

The new rumble is supposed to be quite different to the old dual-motor effort. I've never liked rumble, but there was one game I tried it on where it didn't feel bad. CON has it engage for your heartbeat when low on health. It's not very useful, but the feeling was quite effective, of a beating heart in your hands. If it could be applied more effectively than the Bzzzzrrrrttt when you're shot, it might be a good thing. And if not, it appeases those who lament its absence while the rest of us can turn it off like usual ;)

Oops , sorry  ...

i honestly don't really care for rumble either, but it would be nice to have.
Immersion's new next-gen vibration technology is not like known rumble technologies ;
"...I personally experienced Immersion's new rumbling technology yesterday, and I have to say that it's a major, major step in the right direction..."

“You’re probably asking yourself, “How can rumble be any better?â€￾ Fortunately for us, Immersion has shown us how. They have convinced us next-generation rumble is real and ready today.. . . The realism and impressiveness created by Immersion’s new TouchSense technology is unlike anything you’ll ever feel. In fact, you have probably never even imagined how precise and advanced rumble can be.â€￾

Does anyone know if their is likely to be a revised Sixaxis unveiled at Leipzig? I ask because I'm thinking of buying a PS3 tomorrow.

Buy it tomorrow and enjoy it until if/wghen te new rumble controllers are premiered. Then buy one of em and keep the rumble-less as a spare or have a friend use it when you co-op or such

Peace.

Yeah, probably the best idea.

Have you got a PS3? Do you mind me asking what games you've got? The game I'm most interested in is Ninja Gaiden

You may actually find that for motion controlled games that don't support rumble (or anyway), the very light sixaxis may be preferable. I like it a lot anyway. But then we don't know yet if the new one will actually be heaver. In fact, support for Rumble in the SDK doesn't even guarantee we'll get a new sixaxis, but who knows ... ;)

next-gen.biz had a story about this rumour earlier today, but it seems like it has been removed now. I wonder why?

edit: I just noticed they´ve moved it to the blog section.

If it's true Sony would've asked (demanded if last time is anything to go by) for it to be removed.

I'm still not expecting it now. You never know, but I'd be surprised - it would be too soon. Possibly though there are third party rumble controllers and the SDK has been expanded to support those?

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that a rumble-enabled Dual Shock 3 is coming. GameSpot has learned from a source close to Sony that the company is definitely working on a force-feedback-equipped controller for release in the "coming months." However, as of press time, Sony higher-ups were still apparently debating whether or not to unveil the device at TGS--though a less appropriate venue doesn't spring to mind. It was also unclear if the Dual Shock 3 would have the Sixaxis' tilt-sensing technology, or whether the functionality had been abandoned altogether.
they better not abandon the tilt-sensing technology!
but yeah, it seems like they will most likely unveil it at TGS.
