Simultaneous global Revolution launch unlikely - Iwata

I say launching in one region is the smart thing to do. you can ramp up sales faster by having less shortages and other obstacles to worry about. if it was for me, I wouldn't let PS3 have a WW launch either.

I can't imagine Nintendo even trying a simultaneous launch after what MS went through. I don't think Sony wanted to do a simultaneous launch at all, but the delays forced them into it. It was either a simultaneous launch or miss the 2006 holiday season for them, and even though Sony is the 800lb gorilla that rules the console market, they can't afford to give MS two free holiday seasons without any competition.

Without knowing when they plan on launching and where, it is pretty uninformative.

What consistutes a global launch? Same day in all three territories? same week? same month?

If Nintendo only launches in 2006 in Japan and no other territory in the following 6 months, that will really suck in my opinion.

However, I believe (just my opinion), that they will be out in at least two territories before PS3. Japan later summer/early fall (Aug-Sep), perhaps the US before the holiday season(Oct-Nov), and Europe 2 or 3 months later. Not a simultaneous launch, but a pretty short and staggered launch window.

you know what? I still have a feeling that they will not make a global launch. closest thing I can imagine is releasing in Japan and NA. after a few months, in Europe.

after what I've seen come from X2's 'short gapped' WW launch and PSP's original WW launch plans, I feel this is a marketing effort to keep people (at least in Europe) on hold. if they said from the beginning that PS3 will hit Japan in No. 2006, with a few months after for NA and then Europe, not as many may have waited on an X2.

I don't know, I just can't see a PS3 every where at the same time. they even said the launch would cover Australia and other parts of Asia. I hope they can do it, but I doubt it.

A worldwide launch seems a lot more daunting once you include Europe in the mix. With Japan you have one language to support, same in North America (except for those silly Francophones in Canada). Both territories also use the same video standard. How many languages does NoE have to localize games for? And that's after they've converted the game from NTSC to PAL.

I can see a Japan/US initial launch, then when enough games have been localized, a European launch.

and multi-language support is another thing to take care of with a European release. there are other, more chalenging, factors like different laws, taxes, requirements, etc.

For some strange reason I am geting error on GI, but from that quote they dont say exactely that, anyway as long as they launch everyhere till hollidays (eg japan in Summer, NA in fall, Europe in Winter) it would be good.

...And of course Nintendo - not being wise of many previous launches in the past - would wait until the very last minute to start dealing with these issues...

COME ON!

You think they're a bunch of morons or what? They know all about these matters for chrissakes.

I don't see at all where Iwata said that a global launch was out of the question... Here, quoted yet again, is what he told Bloomberg:
Iwata said:
"We don't think it's necessary to do the simultaneous worldwide launch simply because others are doing this."
There are two ways you can interpret what he's saying, and both probably equally valid:

1. We don't think it is necessary to do a simultaneous worldwide launch, and we won't be goaded into it by our competitors' actions.

2. We don't think it is necessary to do our simultaneous worldwide launch (which we are doing) simply because the competition is doing it, rather we have our own reasons to do it.

Thats Dumb....I call BS its just that they don't have the resources that Sony and MS has so they say that they will not follow but its sounds to me like they won't be able too in either case so they'll most likely launch in japan where Nintendo R can sell fast.

Nintendo has huge profits. They could afford it if they wanted to.

Well, Nintendo did release the DS in the west first. The states is the largest gaming market, Japanese gamers are more than likely going to eat up Rev consoles/software whether or not the console is released there first or second to the states.

If Nintendo see a window of opportunity to release the Revolution in the states before Sony they will not pass it up.

I would go far as to guess that Nintendo is further along in game development than Sony.

They could launch in Japan first and its not really going to make a difference to the reaction of the market or reception by NA gamers, unless theres a very large gulf in release dates. Realistically revolution will have to sell itself pretty damned hard with good software to be 'ate up' in any market. The hardware sure won't be selling itself as X360 did and PS3 will. Although I think each consoles launch is going to be great this generation, so it probably wont be an issue.

I think overall the Revolution is overlooked way too many times. E3 should give us a better feel of what people will think about it.
