It was logisticX, not me. I'm not going to bother anymore. It's pretty obvious that you will not allow yourself to change your mind on the subject, no matter what anyone says.

Marconelly!-

Apologies for my mistake attributing Logistix quotes to you.

At this point I'm seeing close to half the people interested in the topic agreeing with me and not a singular compelling line of thought in favor of GTA3. It would be pretty hard to sway my viewpoint with those conditions.

Darren-

You already ended the validity of your line of thought ;) :)

Did you complete or beat the game?

No

That says it better then anything I could say. Despite the fact that I was willing to give Morrowind a 0 out of 5 I still made sure I finished the game. If the game is even so much as good, why the hell isn't everyone playing through the game?

Usually my stance is if you don't play all the way through the game it has to suck really bad from your perspective(for the hardcore set, obviously).

I agree that the cars smash up a little to easy but that doesn't really detract from the fact that the car handles very well IMO, which is the most important thing to me.

There is pretty much no physics model to the game at all(I am a big fan of racing titles). If you compare GTA3 to say, Driven, then I think you have a point. I certainly don't think it compares in controls/handling to any other car racing game I've played in the last year or so(actually, I would say it is considerably inferior to Mafia which uses a physics model based on 1930s era autos).

If your the main guy they're getting to do there dirty work then they cannot pick and choose what sort of stuff you do all the time.

You just happened to break out of jail, you think they were banking on you to run all the deeds for the entirety of organized crime in the city? You would start off being one of a group of henchmen at least with trivial tasks progressively getting more difficult(not necessarily linear, but the overall trend would be as such). The fact that games and the real world tend to have people starting off with simpler tasks and working their way up only makes it a no brainer for unclusion.

Darren gave you some valid quotes of what is good about GTA3 as many other people did, yet you keep dismissing that using some vague 'logic' that it's 'not all that' or 'it's been done before'

Ah, who cares, you are right, the rest of the world is wrong. Must feel very good.

Ben, its not like you to completely miss out parts of people's posts or mis-quote people, kindly read my post more carefully next time. I said:

"No, I would have though if I hadn't re-installed my PC and lost the saves (I backed them up but the CD I used to backup was faulty).

I was quite a way through the game and lost my saves, I do not want to play right through all of the earlier parts of the game again at this time (so soon after I first played through it).

Also you cannot say my opinion has no validity simply because I did not finish the game, frankly that's rubbish!

As I said I am perfectly open to the possibility that the structure of the missions gets worse beyond the missions I've played, and so I could be wrong on my opinions on the mission structure. However not completeing the game does not change the validity of many of my other opinions on the game.

Overall I'd expect the missions from each person/orginisation to get harder along the way (with the odd easy mission at any point along the line). But as I said you do not work for just one orginisation and respect and a position of authority does not have to stay when you start working for someone else, not when your a hired goon anyway.

I have played quite a few driving games, NFS5: porsche unleashed being my favourite, GTA3 is better then NFS5 IMO, the car handles extremely well. As for not being as good as some racing games, you expect the driving part of a game to be better then some of the best dedicated driving games around?

In the end you just didn't like the game, no amount of opinions from others will change that. Also people here do not have to change your mind, allot of people liked the game, it has many good qualities. You cannot possibly believe that its a bad game just because you didn't like it.

To use another game in the vein as GTA3, the driving isn't close to the level of Mafia's.

You cannot possibly believe that its a bad game just because you didn't like it.

I didn't like The Sims, doesn't mean I think it's a bad game. I fully understand the difference between my preferences and the makings of a good game. I appreciate your articulations of why you like the game, you are honestly the first person I've seen give it a shot.

You like the driving portion of the game, and you enjoy the variety in missions. Is there any other aspect in the game that you enjoy? Being that you are the only person that seems willing to explain why you enjoy the game, and that I am honestly interested in why you do, I am very interested in hearing your thoughts. This isn't about me not liking the game, I can't see a single thing that they did well and have been dumbfounded in terms of why people like this game.

We must have played two different games, then. Driving in Mafia, was so slow and sluggish, it felt more like a chore :\

In that other thread, I also gave another reason why I liked GTA3:

Shenmue was a great game, but immersiveness that it's city offered was nowhere near that of GTA3. In GTA3 you could just sit there and watch people go around - someone would start a fight, beat each other, the ambulance car would come, which you could steal... or get into the nearby taxi and get a whole miniature Crazy Taxi game as a bonus.

Besides, GTA3 was as much fun as you wanted it to be. It reminded me of the LEGO bricks in that regard: Some kids would be just sitting there, having no clue how to have fun with them, probably thinking 'if someone just told me what to create - walk me through it...' others would make their own castle and spaceship designs come to life...

Sure, you couldn't *create* anything in GTA3, but the imaginative and open minded approach was always very rewarding to a player. There was such a variety of things to do, it can hardly become boring.

Oh, btw, GTA Vice City just scored 9.6 at Gamespot and 9.7 at IGN.

I'd put the Celeste up against the Banshee any day.

That is a conceptual angle, which I haven't argued against GTA3(all concept has been my main point). It is all in the execution that I have problems.
