Shadow of the colossus and framerate issues

PVC is not a forum ,it's a kind of sect....brr

Someone tried to start a conversation about Shadow of the Colossus over there...of course it immediately denigrated into "This game looks like crap! Xbox is God!"

Can we leave the forum war(t)s for th emoment...

To stay on topic, I can't even imagine what the ICO/SOTC team will do next... I mean, who ever thought that the "spiritual sequel" to ICO would be this completely different game?!
If they intend to change things again, i seriously cannot imagine what direction they'll go for next time...
And please, no one mention FPS. Or Racing games.

It'll be a long time coming. The guy in charge said he was eyeing PSP, and was looking forward to PS3, but not to expect anything for 3 years. 3 years until we see how they put PS3 to use!  Still it'll be worth it I'm sure. :D

Well when you think about it, it's about the same time they took between Ico and SOTC... Painful huh...

I just can't think of anything that will be as different to SOTC as SOTC is to Ico.

How is SOTC selling, I want it to sell more than GTA3/VC/SA combined.;)

On serious note, anyone knows how well is it selling?

Gosh easy man.. the thing came out this week!!

It will sell more than Ico for sure. But nowhere near GTA kind of figures. It doesn't need to, whatever happens, that team will have a very easy life within Sony, they have made 2 of the very few games that MUST be played on PS2 according to critics and people who actually played them, whatever their sales.

yes, i feel relly bad killing them...it's the fourth dimension of this 3d game

I gather you haven't faced the ninth colossus yet. ;)

They get VERY aggressive in the last half of the game. Especially 15.

The last colossus... Normandy comes to mind. I had my ass handed to me in 15 seconds.

Definitely will be worth the wait, I just hope they're able to get started soon so the transition to the new platform isnt too time consuming. Ueda said in a recent interview (paraphrasing) that he has some ideas swirling around about his next design but nothing he feels must be made into a game yet. I thought it was encouraging that he said his biggest hope for next gen is to eliminate his limitations on character detail. Considering his two PS2 games have among the most nuanced and intricately detailed and animated characters of the generation (from the boy in Ico to the horse of SotC) I cant fathom what his team will be able to capture with the horsepower they'll have next gen.

As for SotC sales I think it'll do better than Ico in the States thanks to a nifty print campaign and strong word of mouth, and it seems to be getting a pretty decent push in Japan as well. The viral marketing stuff confuses me though because as cool as it is its not going to sell units. You'd think those resources would be better spent on a TV ad or two. Hell all they have to do is show a little clip of any of the Colossi battles, they're visually evocative enough on their own that it could sell to casuals on that merit alone.

~SotC spoilers....depends on how ~much~ you read into what I say.

People, i'm at the 16th Colossi (fighting it right now as we speak)...just...

This thing is a MONSTER. Its HUGE. and i'm typing to you all right now because i'm trying to let the main character health regenerate.

I also experience something thats going to make anyone whos played through this game have a "almost tear jerker" moment. Thats messed up what happens...

This game is amazing. I'll get back to you after I beat this assgoblin.

---Spoilers below this point---

Amazing. This game has hit me on so many levels that this is the Game of the Year for me. The ending is quite possibly the saddest ending that i've ever seen. It literally almost drove me to tears. To see someones efforts to bring back someone they love, make it happen, but cannot be with the person because of the attrocity that they've done...its almost to much.

Theres an underlying meaning to this story and what transpires. The way its delivered though makes it familiar but very different. Like hearing a smiliar fairy tale or legend but from another land. The team that created this game need to be commended.

It does have technical issues (Camera, Controls and some people may not like the look of it) but for what it is and the platform that it was created on, its a very masterful game. Its one of those games where you've probably played nothing like it (I haven't).

---Spoilers End at this point---

Get this game, support the creators and deliver Sony a message from the sales of this game. I commend you team Ico, this is one game purchase where I was brought back to when I was younger. The feeling of wanting to finish the game and see what happens. The feeling of wonder and amazement. It was all delivered to me in this game.

Thank you team Ico.

Man I can't agree with you more here. The battles are sooooooo great. It's funny because while you are actually fighting the beasts it looks like a cinematic movie clip for a commercial. I wish the game had instant replay (even though I know it wouldn't make sense for this game) just so I can go back and watch the epic battles happen in slow motion from different angles.

I haven't played a game in a while that made me press pause because I couldn't beleive what I just done. I want to explain further but I don't want to spoil anything. The battles are just incredible.

Just finished the game a few minutes ago and this game is just stunning all the way through.

I haven't seen things like this in a game before, "epic" is the right word. Its got a horse that acts like a real horse, eye popping collosi and a perfect musical score. At one point I rode under a colossus 5 times, the experience was just unreal. One tune sounded like a bit like Hans Zimmers Gladiator arena theme.
Its hard to believe its running on PS2, it feels like a next gen game.

Best game ever? possibly
Best action sequences ever? definately - even Kojima has been outdone.

The only negative is that the characters didn't connect as well as Ico, and the ending was interesting but didn't have as much impact as Ico. But then Ico sets the bar high too so thats forgivable.
I don't think there is a "framerate issue", since i only noticed one hiccup which lasted for 1 second on the 16th colossus.

Is the music also a "ten" as in the trailer throughout the whole game?
This is a must pickup and lets hope its sell really well.

The music is top notch, the best I've heard - I know I've throw around a lot of superlatives but in this case, its deserved. When the combat music kicks in, it really gets the blood pumping, and it always compliments the given situation so I don't notice it that much - like in a movie. I believe each collosus has a different "approach stage" music.

Hope that it sells really well too, I can't see why it shouldn't become one of the best selling games on PS2.

Glad to hear that!
I think many are so upp with the graphical department that they forget just how important the music is. Even if you dont have an expensive suround system combined with a 50inch plasma.. :)

On my first playthough, i just used the tv speakers and it was great, next playthough will be using the surround system and subwoofer. Its a good job I dont have a weak heart, these collossus are incredibly scary. :)
