SEOUL (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (005930.KS) is expected on Friday to report quarterly profit rose by about a fifth, driven by soaring demand for flat-screen TV panels and chips used in digital cameras, mobile phones and MP3 players.
The outlook for 2006 remains upbeat for the world's top memory chip maker as demand for NAND flash chips builds and on brisk sales of slim mobile phone models, analysts say.
The South Korean firm, the most valuable technology firm outside the United States, should also benefit from cost reductions linked to new liquid crystal display (LCD) production lines, offsetting falling prices for flat panels.
Samsung, also the world's third-largest mobile phone producer, is set to announce a net profit of 2.23 trillion won ($2.2 billion) for the quarter ended December 31, according to a median forecast of eight analysts polled by Reuters Estimates.
