it looks pretty substancial, and that explains why games like GT7 VR or RE8 VR retain most of the graphical fidelity of the 2d versions, minus resolution, when on PSVR 1 much more concessions had to be made.
 
That's interesting. I assume that must be a near worst case scenario as that looks even worse that what I see in my old Rift CV2 without doing a side by side comparison.
I'm thinking it's a great way to get the cost down on OLED panels. I've seen some people say they've gotten dead pixels too.

I asked if anyone has used both PSVR1 and 2 and got a few responses that the mura is similar or slightly improved but the lower resolution of PSVR1 naturally makes everything look worse.

Asking this here as I don't want to derail the PSVR2 thread but can anyone that has played a PC racing simulator like Project Cars 2/3 on a modern headset as well as GT7 on PSVR2 say how they compare?

A lot of the praise I'm hearing for GT7 sounds like fairly standard VR racing sim fare to me. i.e. greater sense of speed, greater sense of verticality, cool to be able to look around while overtaking, perfect world scale, etc....

I assume GT7 will look a bit better although I think we're well into the realms of diminishing returns in race sims so I'm not sure how big an impact that would have?
Don't know about project cars 2/3 but ac/acc/auotmobilista 2/iracing on a hp g2 can look very similar depending on tracks, unfortunately you generally have tracks with different levels of detail depending on what the devs spend more time on. Like Laguna Seca looks better in gt7 than say iracing. I think the massive praise is mainly from people who have never experienced it before, which is somewhat understandable. GT7 has that very smooth feel, which works for a production car with sloppy suspension but once we get to GT cars it doesn't get the visceral rough feeling you get from ACC, which could make GT7 less nausiating but I prefer the feeling from say ACC that feels like the car is moving around you more. F1 2022 looks pretty close in VR aswell but i'm not into F1 so havn't played that much except a quick few laps around melbourne track.

GT7 is a hell of a VR game, but it's not doing anything pcvr sims have been doing for a while. It's going to come down to if you like the more accessible driving model in GT7 vs pc games which tend to try be more sim.

AC with custom tracks and other mods can be pretty impressive aswell, although it never quite hits GT7 levels visually (although u can get some crazy detailed player made car addons) it still my current driving fix.

I will say personally the best VR expereince i've ever had was in flight sim 2020, it's an impressive thing visually in VR. Cockpit games are not going to be what's needed to push VR adoption though, I think we might see beat sabre 2 be a launch game for quest 3 and it will probably sell more quest 3's than what horizon/re8/gt7 does for psvr2 which isn't great, I want more fully made for VR games like HLA/Horizon but that dream seems to be slipping away.
 
I think we can count on a new game from Valve if they release their HMD. And you never know if some indie game will hit it big. But yeah the traditional publishers and franchises are probably not coming.

ps Asseto Corsa is only £3.79 on cdkeys (steam version)
Friendly reminder to wait and pay a few £ more to get the Ultimate Edition when it’s on sale in case it’s required for the many, many mods out there. Also, is CD Keys still considered a grey market reseller? I believe ITAD only lists authorized resellers.
 
No idea ive used cdkeys several times and never had a problem

Sounds fairly promising. Big heavy bucking the slimline trends @ 1.1kg 🤯, but the screens sound great and FOV is pretty good. Pricey of course.

It's inconceivable to me that they'd use integrated batteries. IMO, the Quest headset that I have does controller batteries in a great way. Easily swappable batteries with a magnetic cover. I basically never have to worry about whether or not my controllers will or won't run out of power when I'm using the headset because it only takes a few seconds to swap the batteries.

Most aspects of the product make me go Hmmmmm lol

I would probably prefer AAs but with my various WMR controllers, which of course are functional but rather questionable, I had to buy some Li Ion AAs with a full time 1.5v output for them to work well. Xbox gamepads are like this too.

The main issue is the battery life of even their purpose built integrated battery sounds awful so what's the point. I get like 12 hours from my Li Ion AAs. And of course will it fail in 2 years.

Completely agree. Integrated batteries are a big minus for me. We have dozens of recharchables in our house ready to go at any given moment. No messing around with charging cables or worrying about the batteries running out.
 
latest datamine info on steamvr, more about software features to expect rather than what hardware to expect although he does seem to conclude expect wireless support, eye tracking and AR support.

F1 2022 is now £7.99 (-84%) on steam ( Ends 13th April)
it has a VR mode

 
The display specs for Apple's XR thing probably leaked. 4k per eye, ~33 pixels per degree, 5000nits. Since it's using pancake optics or similar, it'll hopefully be enough to at least match the brightness of a good conventionally lens.

With that resolution and an m2 processing puck it could actually make a viable desktop replacement. Maybe. If you have $3000 to splash on it. And if they can get the face interface right.

The attempts at AR/XR computer replacements haven't worked yet. If the Apple device has good enough displays, can nail an XR user interface and run MacOS in virtual screens it might be that device Magic Leap/Meta/MS have failed to deliver.

Headline version is, can they pull an iPhone on the XR market.
