Red Dead Redemption

Aparently an editor was shit canned because he posted an email from rockstar to give this a good review.

So I will pass on any rockstar games from now on.
You might then as well pass on games from many, many other devs and publishers ;)

While I can appreciate the sentiment, I suspect the reality is that this type of thing happens all the time. It's probably not fair to punish the rest of R* because of some dipshit PR asshole with a sense of entitlement based on past success. So far, the game sounds intriguing, and I have enough people on my Friends list who I trust to give an honest assessment of whether or not the game lives up to the hype. As someone else mentioned, if you're going to take the moral high road for things like this, you probably won't be playing many games.

Could be.. might also be saying - make sure the guy is aware of this stuff. I dunno, I'm probably biased, my missus works for R*. I'd hate for her work to be tarnished by this crap.

So this is supposed to be the real deal?!

No I have the same problem like you: this and Alan Wake at the same day...

If i look into my Crystal Ball i see a PC version in the distant future, they have the most expensive part of the game done, that is the content. "All" they have to do is port the engine to the PC, and i guess it´s some version of the old and so very busted GTA4 engine.

Does anyone know how they handled the PS3 vs 360 development? will we see the same mishmash of highres vs lowres vs graphic "errors" ?

I think 360 is lead platform, and thats what they are showing to press.I also know that RAGE engine on ps3 always ran in sub hd res with no aa,so i think there is possibility of that happening again.

"This is the biggest game we've done since GTA IV, and is already receiving Game of the Year 2010 nominations from specialists all around the world," it read. "Can you please ensure Toby's article reflects this — he needs to respect the huge achievement he's writing about here."

The article linked to indicates this gent has a habit of going off the hook in his articles. It doesn't look like an outright bribe, doesn't even say it is for the reviews. It could very well be, "Look, if you guys want an early review copy we expect someone who shows a little respect to our industry and product to review the title. Make sure someone who cares about fair coverage handles our product and not just some shoot from the hip ass who is more interested in his identity." If you are making $50M products and giving certain press outlets your product for early review before customers have access to the product you do want some control over who has access. Seems reasonable.

Or they could just want people to understand that this game has been a huge project in the same way GTA was, and it is not a second tier title for them. That quote, without any context, can be taken to mean many different things. That's why selective quoting is, and shouldn't be, heavily abused.

One thing I'd like to know is the SP lenght. For me, the biggest issue with GTA4 was the lenght of the campaign. It was too long and lost steam too early. By the end, I was pretty much burned out and the felt the same when playing "The Lost and the Damned."

I felt TLAD was better than GTA4 but I still had the old GTA4 fatigue setting in. I still have not finished TLAD due to this.

I'd prefer a 15-20hour campain. Nothing more.

Forgve me, what's TLAD?

/edit.. doh.. you mentioned it in the first sentence. The Lost and the Damned.

I agree, I gave up 4 hours into GTA4 but I quite enjoyed The Ballad of Gay Tony...a nice length storyline with a bit of variety in the missions...hopefully this is a good sign for RDR, I'd rather have ~12hr story and the ability to buy more add-ons.

I just couldn´t get into the character of a russian mobster, biggest issue i had with the game. I felt i was playing a loser :)

So, looks like the free roam is sort of clarified. Up to 16 players in a session at once, with the max posse size of 8. This is the part I find interesting:

"If you see a posse in your Free Roam session that you would like to join, you can request to join the posse using the multiplayer menu."

What I think that means, is that even in free roam you are matched at random with other players. It'll be interesting, because you'll have to keep your guard up at all times. I wonder if there'll be a way to turn that off, for those with no interest in PvP conflict.
