"IT TOOK ATI three tape-outs of R520 silicon to make it right but it turned out to be third time lucky."

What do you guys think?

(Cant find any discussion about it, sorry if already posted).

No discussion because everybody has probably allready read it.

And the "three's a charm" comments would not've been off the air.

Anyway, looking forward to the launch later this month...

Wasn't it mentioned a while back that multiple tape-outs are normal?
Could you please stop bringing logic and actual facts into this topic?
L'Inq implys Ati is doomed, and that's all we're allowed to discuss.

No need to hear about the fact that a chip gets a few of revisions, and therefore tape-outs, before mass production. The time is for doom and gloom posting only!

;)

In that case: I've heard that there will be no 3D-demos of Ruby this time, but rather a 320x240 mpg1 videofile which, due to problems with the video acceleration hardware in r520 will be approximately the best you can expect in visual performance this time around..

And there is still no RSN-chip onboard..

EDIT: Almost forgot. ATi have made a deal with Hoover for the cooling-solutions.

I don't feel that a single person on these forums thinks ATI is doomed. If someone bites into the Inq's sensationalism, then that's their own fault.

Sure , all chips need several tapeouts before the final fully debugged ( we hope ) retail version is released . However the problem comes when you are at what you think should be your last tapeout and have to do that one several times because of problems .

I will give the Inquirer the benefit of the doubt that they were thinking along these lines .

Why do you have to spoil the fun :(

Heh. I honestly can't believe that the Inq actually knows what they're talking about in the first place.

alright alright, I'll bite. If you all really want to know, ATI is liquidating off all its assets as it prepares to file for Chapter 11 due to the delay of R520 and Crossfire. ATI is for all intents and purposes DOOMED!
