Quantum Break [XO] (by Remedy) *large images*

Some of these shotgunner fights kinda remind me of Killzone 2 Heavy.

The models seem similar.

I hope the game doesn't become tiresome (given Alan Wake did). I hope there's good variety with time powers, boss fights, puzzles etc.

Anyways I am pretty sure this reconstruction is just going to work while staying still and the game will be 720p while moving which, if true, brings me to a conclusion that the only reason it exists is to have 1080Pr.
I am sure this technique works perfectly at least in cinematics, conversations, etc close ups.

In real movies the camera focus point is never moving quickly in the screen, as the 1/48s (half of the 24 fps frame) exposure causes heavy motion blur for moving objects. Objects that should be sharp are not moving quickly -> this technique renders those objects perfectly.

Reprojection techniques provide more actual samples allowing better reconstruction (supersampling, more resolution, more stable image, etc). Reconstruction of a moving scene is never perfect, but it is still much better than simply doing nothing.

My personal experience (of a different implementation) is that it is much harder to see the quality issues during game play. I agree that screen shots look worse. But if you take a single screenshot of a 1080p blu-ray movie, it also looks horrible (blurry and full of compression artifacts, you just didn't see them in motion).

Jim Sterling's review leaked early http://pastebin.com/jnmbCwGA

Sounds good, especially given Sterling seems to dislike Xbox (seriously still dredging up 3 years old XBO reveal non-issues? What year is this?)

The punchline (It wont format right)

  1. Quantum Break is not the most revolutionary of games, and its box of time toys cover what is, at heart, a fairly standardized shooter. However, it carries itself with style and speed to create something genuinely fascinating to play, flavored by a story that, while failing to pay off in the final stretch, is more detailed and engrossing than most in its league.

  2. The Xbox One may have failed to live up to its dreams of being a cross-media entertainment portal, but we got Quantum Break out of it, and that’s just fine by me.

  3. 8.5/10
  4. Great

The xbox tv dredging was not uncalled for. There might be readers who didn't follow the game much after the xbox reveal showing and are curious to know what came out of what was originaly presented as a cross media game/tv-series thnigie. Or, there might be readers who never heard THAT part of the story, who might apreciate being situated in that regard as to why the hell there are 10 minute long live action cutscenes in the freaking thing.

I'm surprised at how short the game is, like 10 hours the cutscenes included!
And the lenght and amount of cutscenes truly seem to rival those of any MGS :)
Seems to be getting mixed reviews, from 6 to 8's.
Still, definitely a game I'd buy if I had an xbox one. I like shortish games with high production values :)

Hmm, reviews are all over the place. Still, DF did an excellent job covering the technical aspects of the game

Will be a 3 part coverage

Edit: They seem to agree with many of my points in this post https://forum.beyond3d.com/posts/1901175/ so i guess not many things have changed in the final version of the game

I really expected only 9/10 or 10/10 thrown around.
Let's be honest, when the 360 'reigned' this game would have had a +91 metacritic easily.

As Eurogamer puts it:
"Perhaps it's a hangover of Microsoft's ill-fated grab for television, made infamous in the mantra that echoed awkwardly around the Xbox One's initial reveal and now, with the closure of Microsoft's TV studios, firmly abandoned.
In part Quantum Break feels like an artefact of a different age - an imposter from an aborted timeline, some chilling dystopia in which Don Mattrick was right all along and that forced smile never subsided"

Still, sounds like a nice "popcorn" game, play it once, enjoy, and forget.

I'll still give it a chance, critics didn't really praise Alan Wake and i still loved my time with it. I'll just wait to see if there are any UWP issues with the game first.

Hum, seems like this game is panning out to be the XB1 version of The Order 1886. Either you like or hate it, no middle ground. Frankly, I liked The Order, so hopefully QB does well.

Pretty sure it's getting better reviews than The Order. And I do hope it's a better game than that.

Some major sites have given it low marks/ratings/no seals/etc... while others were high. That's not to say it worse than "The Order" (which I love), it's just critics opinions that the gameplay is subpar in a beautiful package.

...some chilling dystopia in which Don Mattrick was right all along...

That's a brilliant comment!!

I still think the game looks cool and I'd definitely buy it if I had an Xbox One.

Not a must buy at $60, so my wallet is spared. My backlog is so large that I'm glad to wait for a $20 holiday sale. I must say I have never enjoyed a Remedy game, I'm hoping this is the first.
