PSP2 in the pipeline ?

Way too early for any PSP2 or PSP+. The device has only been out for what, six months here in Euroland. That's nothing.

they should better lower the price and include a 2byte memorystick with it for lets say 150euro :)

Personally, I don't think PSP2 will be a topic for at least another 4 years....

Sony could get started on the path to the largest market right now if they'd integrate the next PSP as a platform in their upcoming Ericsson cellphones, using a practical technological base such as that of their FOMA OMAP2 model.

I heard an updated version with a hard drive will be coming out soon. Other than that it will be the same though.

Sounds like more misunderstandings/conjecture based off that Samsung-Sony memory deal (for NAND flash), which, If I recall correctly, was actually for their MP3 players and nothing else (as it was several gbit parts in question -- 4-8gbit parts).

How can a single deal for a large supply of memory cause so many goofy stories to fly around the net?

I guess it could be done by placing the microdrive in the other bulge opposite the battery bulge. You'd still need to keep the UMD drive though. I'm thinking it would be qute expensive though. Maybe around $350 total. I think a better option would be to just include 2GB of flash RAM which is about the same cost of a 3GB microddrive around $50-60 in bulk.

At least the two analog stick would be out for a simple redesign. Maybe for PSP2, but not for "PSPee"
If they're making a redesigned PSP, I would like a clamshell design, which would make the unit smaller (shorter) without making the screen smaller.
I see no sense in making a PSP with gig(s) of built in memory, because selling MemorySticks must be more profitable to Sony, and side the price factor, just as convenient for the user as 4GB of inbuilt mem vs. replaceble 4GB Memorystick.

well it seems Nvidia *probably* has the contract to do PSP2 GPU.

Anyway, for the rest of you (read: everyone but me on this forum, most likely), I'd say the primary highlight is what they call "NRE2" Revenue with Sony and the massive talks of handheld. They also got a slide with "growth opportunities" listing portable game consoles-like devices as "30M units per year" for them, in the "CE" category along with PS3. Overall, it is plainly obvious that NVIDIA is working with Sony on PSP2. They expect NREs to last nearly two years on that, so I'd expect it to be a mid/late 2008 part. Anyway, here comes to mini-pseudo-transcript!

Nvidia lands new Sony design contract

Thursday 23 March 2006, 4:04pm EST

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 23 (Reuters) - Graphics chip maker Nvidia Corp. said on Thursday it has a new design contract with Sony Corp. that will pay more than it earned for creating the graphics processor for the upcoming PlayStation 3 video game console.

"We have new contracts with Sony to do some further designs."

Burkett declined to reveal what the design work was for.

"We have a contract to do engineering work for them. I don't think I should discuss what that product is," Burkett said.

what that product is.... heh heh heh....

Sony makes other mobile devices besides PSP, such as really small computers.

BTW, who made the PSP's graphics chip?

Sony made it themselves, IIRC.

Regarding a couple of GB of Flash memory in the PSP2, I don't buy it, since PSP is the perfect trojan horse for Memory Stick, and a large amount of inboard memory would also remove an incentive for people to buy UMD videos.

Sony made their own graphics chip / GPU for PSP. it has some of the characteristics of the Graphics Synthesizer in PS2, but with fewer pipelines, but more hardwired features.
(correct me if i'm wrong guys)
