PSP and DS to play Xbox360 games

I didn't know if I should put this in the handheld section or console section so here you go anyways.

UNCONFIRMED: Could Microsoft be using the competition to strengthen the Xbox 360?

The website Tech News World has reported that Microsoft has developed technology to allow its Xbox 360 console to connect with the handheld systems of its two biggest rivals in gaming, Sony and Nintendo. The technology would allow users of the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS to connect with the Xbox 360 and then play Microsoft's games online.

Tech News World cites Microsoft sources, however Microsoft has not yet confirmed nor denied the reports.

It is said that Microsoft has developed this technology in order to overcome the weakness of not having a handheld system like Sony and Nintendo. The connectivity of the Xbox 360 with handhelds from rivals would not be the first such move by Microsoft with regard to the Xbox 360. Microsoft is currently considering making the Xbox 360 compatible with the iPod digital music player from long-time rival Apple.

We'll keep you updated.

Who would this help more Nintendo and Sony or MS? Hmmm....

...Before starting a new thread think: "Is this subject beyond stupid?"
IF no goto 20
IF yes goto post it at Gamefaqs.com

playing the games online?

I had heard since E3 that you could connect a PSP, iPod etc to the X360 to exchange files via your X360 HDD or PC but actually play the games?

interesting if true.

This is really stupid "news." The PSP and DS have wi-fi, so connecting to Xbox360 is of course technically feasible. In the same vein, Sony can also claim to have DS connectivity. But for the wi-fi connection to be useful, there have to be compatible games on both ends of the connection. Since Sony and Nintendo have complete say over what games to approve, they can easily block games that implement any connectivity with a client or server that runs on Xbox.

Well if thats true then yeah this is a dumb article.

I think this "rumour" has been "leaked" just to steal some thunder form Sony and Ninterndo next gen consoles.
It's to confuse the mainstream buyer thinking xbox360 will have this feature, so it won't look crippled when compared against PS3 and Revolution.
Of course, in the end there will only be basic connectivity in form of file transfer, nothing more.
Or then this could be yet another attempt from MS to lead the less aware buyers into thinking xbox360 is "the next PlayStation" model, called PlayStation xbob360  (as some people did believe whan xbox came to market, and I do think this was intentional by MS (witness the marketing campagns that imitated PlayStation campaigns...)

I wonder if that "special technology" is called "WiFi"?

I like the news chain of this particular item - a site reports that a site reports that a site reports that people at Microsoft said something.

i think that special technology is USB2.0.
xbox360 doesn't have WiFi (unless you connect a WiFi adapter to the Ethernet port, but then PS2 and xbox are WiFi too ;) )
