The lack of a decent CPU bump is super lame.
Back to the hardware itself. I'm really curious about the CPU and memory not receiving much of an upgrade. Are they trying to enforce feature parity? For the consumers sake or for the developer? Why not 12GB of RAM? Why not a few more CPU cores, or a new CPU core that supports the same instructions?
It'll be very interesting to see what their plan is, because it doesn't seem to fall in line with what I expected. Edit: Without them explicitly stating that going forward they would be switching to a forwards compatible model, I would not invest any money in PS4.5
But also... "We only ever show our oculus games on 980ti dual xeon at trade shows, but we recommend an i5 and 970! We swear!"Buy PSVR for your PS4! It's such a great experience that we designed this other upgraded PS4 to give you beautiful VR ... but you don't need it. We swear!

Sony actually used PS4s at trade shows, they deserve more credit for pulling it off honestly. That should be enough to make your joke fall flat.
Well, it can't be a tough sell if it's the only 399 option around for those who already have a PS4 and camera like me. Then after the PS4K price drop they might get one to improve performance.I'm just commenting that if it's primarily marketed to improve the VR experience, then convincing people to buy VR for PS4 might be a tougher sell.
The codename Neo dovetails nicely wth PSVR's codename Morpheus but 'Neo' is latin for 'New'. New PS4 is exactly what it is.Blargh. Their codename makes me think ps4k was designed for Psvr.
