You can buy 2.5" to 3.5" drive SATA connector adaptors (around £5-10) but I think a 3.5" drive is unlikely. A second 2.5" would be better from a power/heat/noise perspective but I think is also unlikely.
Surely you'd have to remove console exclusives too?

Yup. You'd need to restrict it to titles available on all platforms.
PC has clearly a great future. Maybe one day Playstation will be like Live and will be available on PC...and then only PC like Steam.

If they have more height available it would be great if the 2.5 tray allows 15mm drives. The samsung 4TB 2.5" is 15mm.

This times a hundred. They really just need to get it to run at 30fps impeccably. Plus some better IQ here and there and I think everyone would be very happy.
As a platform holder I expect from Sony to enhance ALL their 1st/2nd party games. That's not a big list of games so it would be manageable.
If they don't do it, why would anyone else bother?
I doubt it. But that would be a dream come true. It's still my favorite game of the generation and I would gladly replay it again.

Well you plug the 2.5" drive into the caddy, plug that into the 3.5" drive bay and play.

Those caddies are a thing. I've got two.
Old PS4 games will not get any performance boost if the game is not patched to access the whole [and full speed] Neo hardware. They need the patch.
And the patch would need to come from From Software, not Sony. Which would make it a bit less likely. But not impossible.
Can't they make a patch ton behalf of the developer? Like ms with xbox backwards compatibility?
I'd be very surprised if that happened.
