Indeed, it's clearly a broader game. It's a cross-genre platform shooter. Having tried the Beta today (sorry Deep, but the floors were so shiny and bumpy I just had to go have another look...) the platforming aspect really expands the notion of a shooter, compared to what I'm used to in WH, KZ2, RFoM etc. The movement is wonderfuly fluid. It's wrong to pigeon-hole creations just for the sake of classification. Rather than say 'U2 is an action adventure and so fits in with this group of games' it should be recognised for standing apart. Think Venn diagram if you really have to classify.Plus I don't think U2 really fits itself comfortably into a genre. Third Person Shooter, Action Adventure, Platformer...
So far, from what little I've seen, I can well understand the high scores. Out of 5, it definitely deserve 5. Out of 10, it's probably as perfect as any game can ever be, so anything less than 9.5 would be unjust, meaning 10/10 is a better rating than 9/10. Of course much depends on how nit-picky you are and how grumpy you feel. I could part apart many games I enjoy!
At the end of the day, its down to us to play the game and form our own opinion and rate it, rather than try to accurately measure a game's value from a selection of other people's subjectively scored opinions.
I'll try and get on later this week.
