PS3 shown before XB2

So XB2's gonna be useable hardware. PS3's gonna be concept hype (video playing 'The Incredibles' and we're told this is rendered real-time on PS3). Revolutions' going to be a collection of wierd controllers and Nintendo will ask people to try them, see which they like, and these'll be included in the hardware.

Actually, Nintendo have said they don't want to give info away as Sony and MS might copy them, so I guess they won't say what Revolution is until the day before it's launch. :?

Maybe all we're really going to get from all three is hyperbole?

Seriously, I think Nintendo will be pretty quiet, no specs, and will show more stuff in 2006.

Well if they do that, they can say goodbye to the market leader position.

Is Nintendo really concerned with that though? Personally I think they should be, but in the Gaming forum Univ. Soilder posted info on company profits and Nintendo is STILL #1, almost 2x Sony and 3.5x EA.

Iwata has made it seem (appearances are deceptive) that they are after new gamers and broadening the market. So maybe their goal is not to be the market leader, just a niche leader? Nintendo dances to their own beat... so who knows what their plan is, but I am sure the core concept of the plan is profits.

So no one thinks Nintendo will present a massive spec for the Revolution and make others rethink their own specs?

There's nothing in Nintendo's (very successful) history or present that suggests they'd try something like that. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with gyroscopic control though (assuming they do) - the potential for quirky sports games alone could open up a massive market for them.

I remember using an "unmounted" steering wheel back in the mid nineties, and looking at VR headsets around the same time, and thnking that motion related input (and potentially feedback) were the future. It's taking a while ...

70% of the people I know who play console games STILL twist, jerk, bend, and "push" their controller where they want to go in game.

Maybe Nintendo has found a way to capitolize on the inability of some gamers to hold the controller still?

Well i wouldn't like that. I'm like a drone while playing videogames. Only my fingers move.

I think that'd be a major addition. My sister's a prime candidate, throwing the controller around more fiercely when action is hectic. If the game responds, it'll justify her mad antics! Another feature would be noting whent he player rises up in their seat to look over a hill, or squats down to see what's out the edge of the top of the screen. When the game shows where you're looking, that'll be a major plus too.

If people relate to games like real life, games should respond such.

Problem is, u'll likely only be looking one way - the TV.
Take your eyes off and u're f**ked by the guy sniping your from the 3rd floor in that building far far away.

Yeah, but can you see all the kids and grownups just "having fun" popping up and down in their seats, twisting their bodies, jerking left and right, etc...? It could be totally different "fun" games. So it may not work with a Halo game with sniping, but it may work with a silly fun Mario game?

Not saying I like the idea (I am completely focused and still when I game... like I am plugged into the matrix) but I can see it appealing to different gamers. The fact is almost every female I have ever seen game, plus most my siblings when we were kids, my dad, and even some of my friends move their controller where they want the person to go on screen. Want to jump? They lift the controller. Do they need to make a big turn left? They LEAN left, twist their arms and try to make their body movement make them move more left

Not for me mind you... but I could see Nintendo saying, "You know, people naturally move... so lets help them". They could even market it as "Stay fit while you game!"

Iwata has indicated Nintendo is looking at expanding into different markets and making gaming easier so who knows what they have up their sleeves.

I'm expecting (or hoping for) something similar from EyeToy-like devices too, based on what Sony have talked about. Dunno how advanced their image recognition will go to, whether it'll see controllers being waved. There's also a fitness 'activity' for EyeToy coming from Nike IIRC, so fitness might become a saleable commodity.

"Revolution : Burn calories while you play"
"PS3 has been shown to help slimming as part of a calorie controled diet"

I sure wouldn't mind having eye-toy-like control for a Silent Hill game or other horror game, or even if the view changed based on the controller's physical displacement.

Not everyone will like to stand up in front of a TV while playing a game. Not everyone even have a TV on eye-level while standing up. Don't know, just seems hard to me to imagine anything like that in a real world scenario that is not a stupid little game like Eyetoy's minigames.
Most people get tired/bored of waving their hands around in those very short games, i can't imagine the same system being used on a game like Silent Hill or any "real" game.

How about a (preferably floating) AI Camera that follows you around - making those bzzt noises as it rotates... and zooms in - watching your every move... even when you sleep...

:devilish:

How would i get it to float?

guess next next next gen machines will still be PRed over their Floating point performance....

Errr SORRY that was just a bad joke.

L-b : Tell me in all honesty, playing racing games, you don't in the slightest bit find yourself perking up to try and look over a hill?

I'm a very still player, but catch myself doing this occasionally. Playing CON:RTA yesterday I found I was ducking down a little to try and see what was under the top of the visible screen. Most people do do this somewhere in their gaming and I think it'd a major plus to actually feature it. Not as frantic arm waving, but just noticing slight body shifts in your seat to see how you change, and determine how to change the camera.

C'mon, you goota think that'd be cool! :p

It would be "cool". But what happens after the novelty's gone? We need functional control, not "cool" control.
Or maybe i'm just being very cynical today...

Does six months launch difference really afford Sony that much room in terms of specs? By the time that X2 launches... Sony should be pinned down too...

Six months allows six months. If Sony is pinned down by the time of XBox 2's launch, then that means XBox 2 will be pinned down six months before XBox 2's launch. Make sense? ;)

The fact that the xbox360 will launch in the western markets first while the ps3 will launch in Japan first gives the illusion that the ps3 is many months away from the xbox360 while the truth is that the difference in TRUE launch windows between the 2 will probaly be 4 months(Nov2005-March 2006).
That, coupled with the viral marketing of thousands of sony fanboys on the net, gives the illusion that the ps3 will be massively superior compared to the xbox360.I've even read dreamcast mentions even though the dreamcast was actually 2 years old hardware when the ps2(another dream machine according to the same hype) launched in Japan.

It will be funny comparing ACTUAL games on the 2 consoles. The MS presentation in May will be full of playable games while, the sony one will probably be some tech demos.Thank God that the ps3 will launch soon after the xbox360 and we won't have to bear two years of propaganda like we had during the dreamcast's first years on the market.
