PS3 predictionS now that it launched in all territories

but they have all the cards, they just have to play them right.
No, they have not them anymore ...

Today biggest concern for PS3 is price, tomorrow it will be install basis ...

No flame here but some people need to look differently to the situation.

I remember 2003-2004 when a 4 Cell at 4 Ghz was "in the air" for PS3 and many kept saying it was not worth launching new consoles for Microsoft and Nintendo.

Since then, there were bad news upon bad news. (i won't do the list , it is quite long)

A sump would be :
- Sony was sleeping
- Microsoft came back for new race with a far more accurate policy
- Nintendo awoke and started playing its cards (and not those imposed by others)

People here see the "errors" made by Sony and are categorized in two :
- Those who debate saying these are valid concerns
- Those denying and waiting for future announcement ("you will see what you will see")

In a recent past, EU launch was the savior

For near future, we have already read that next E3 is capital for PS3. Problem is, even is PS3 wins the poll, it will probably don't change the momentum ... because of price !

I have already related a few weeks ago : for what i see in France, there is no momentum at all, just because of price. Someone posted a link to "www.jeux-france.com" upon the launch in France.
I can sum up what interviewees said : "Are you excited by PS3 : yes !" "Will you buy it : no !, far too heavily priced".

Lets look at what could be the situation at christmas 2008 :
- Install basis : Microsoft and Nintendo in the 20M range, Sony in the 10 one
- Prices : Wii 200€, Microsoft (premium) : 300, Sony (premium) : 450-500 €

See the problem, now ?

Joshua made a post recently where he explained quite efficiently why Sony should not price reduce actually.

I agree with his points but ... I think Sony needs an earthquake price related just before this chirstmas season ...

100 € is not enough IMO, but not all company can afford a 45 % price reduction just after launch.

I'm betting on a $150 or €150 price cut.

From waht I've seenin the local area so far the PS3 is selling really, realy well. Alot of people are trading in their 360's to get a PS3 as well. Then again there are many people who haven't jumped onto this gen race, until the PS3's price drops that is.

imo, the European launch was actually pretty good. not many launches get ~1m on day 1. by speculation, they've sold 500k to 700k in 1 day, which is pretty good in my eyes.

if it sold that many in Europe then this is a very good indication.

Can you guys reporting your observations in Europe also say where you are from?

Are you at the UK?

UK alone cant make a difference. We have to see more countries to make better conclusions

You know that theses numbers are the imaginary numbers that vgcharts posted friday morning, nothing to do with any official sale number.

Dwarfing everyone in the price department is usually not such a good thing...

I find the value i got for money to be insane, sorry for actually thinking i get my moneys worth and more.

And i just got my first game as well, F1, it was sold out in 3 shops (they didn´t get alot of those i guess). I can see myself using the PS3 alot more on a casual basis than i ever did my PS2.

Ohh and it´s very easy to hook up a 250GB USB drive for those that may wonder :)

$100 / €100 by the end of the year. No doubt. ;)

The 20GB model will be at a decent price level then...

If they do a higher cut they will piss off a lot of their hardcore fans.

In Belgium there where a couple of them left in mediamarkt last friday night. And knowing that the shopping spree starts on saturday, I think they will easily sell out.

Its kinda difficult to make the comparisment with the PS2 launch, because in the benelux (belgium - netherlands - luxemburg ) we got 50.000* PS3 where the PS2 was launched with only 5000 units. So it seems that people will have a less dificult time to find one. I know that I've waited 2 weeks for a PS2.

My prediction is that unless Sony drops the price of the PS3, it's not going to win any "most sold console" prize in Norway..

I can go and buy a PS3 right now, but I would have to pay almost 1000$(or 740Euro) for it, and that is just crazy!

To compare, the Xbox360 Premium is exactly half price (500$)

Sorry if this comes of as a bit harsh, but i'm just shocked about the price of this thing....

PS: Price is taken from www.komplett.no

In my area one retailer pre-sold the majority of their stock. They've got a sign up now saying something like "2 PS3's in stock... hurry". They had 20 in total and had originally been asking for £100 to pre-order which they dropped in about two days to a £50 deposit.

The other retailer (a gaming specialist) has sold out.

The good sign for Sony is that I live in an area which isn't at all affluent.

Hold on, that sounds weird. Why would Sony care where I live? Ok. I'll leave the funnies to the experts...

Yeah, same here - had to wait two weeks too, but then I hadn't made a reservation. Apart from it costing the same back then as the PS3 now (but with the PS3's functionality now it is hard to believe I felt I was getting value for money back then compared to this!).

Interesting little thing I recently read somewhere, is that the PS1 when it launched in the Benelux cost even more than the PS2 at launch. I didn't know that!

Eventually this machine will hit the $200-$300 bracket and appeal to as large an audience as the PS1 and PS2 did. By that time, it will be a very complete machine and it will be well-mastered by software developers. It should do well. I don't deny that other consoles could do better before that time - the Wii certainly will for the next 1-2 years, and the 360 may well start peaking in year 2-3, but the PS3 will probably keep up and then explode.

But we'll see! For now, I'm one happy customer! I'll start working on my detailed impressions shortly.

Belgium here. Gamemania (it's the biggest videogames retailer in belgium) sold out everything today (they had a total of 3.5k units).

I visited some other stores today but I only found two units in my town. And both boxes were already being held by customers. It's way too early to put a number on it, but I expect good sales. I'm actually surprised by the negative spin gamingsites like kotaku are reporting. It's almost like they want the PS3 to fail.

People underestimate the European launch ... the 360 never did very well in Europe. If the initial reports are true, then at launch the PS3 caught up as much as 25% to the 360.

Could you provide some data to back up that point? Otherwise it's, you now, kinda floating in the air right now...

Which brings up my other point... there's not going to be any reliable way to analyze EU hardware sales, as we don't even have the kind of inaccurate statistics that NPD provides. So it'll be guessing, and I'm quite sure people will guess based on what they'd like to see...
