[PS3] Killzone 3

It seems all that was dropped for the sake of incorporating 3D into the game ! Well, thats what I think, otherwise I can't understand why so much of awesome tech never got implemented in KZ3.

Add to that Muzzle flash shadows seem to be absent from MP now !

I know, we got bigger levels, better textures and MLAA over KZ2, but I still think HDR and SSAO should have been the priorities over them.

Don't forget split screen co-op. Besides run-time, they need dev time to make it happen. There were talks about split screen MP at one point too… until a month or two ago, it was said not to be included in the final game.

I actually think it looks great because it is a little hazy/washed out, not despite of it. (much in the same way a Silent Hill game would)

I like atmospheric look too, but I don't think we can say much about KZ3 just by looking at that snapshot. Need to see it in motion. Would love to see other settings too.

Question: Shouldn't this game have been titled Kill Zone? Killzone is not an actual word, I don't think. Maybe it's more like a calzone - a pizza turnover of death.

A name is just any word/phrases to identify something, hopefully uniquely. Look at "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" (at one point).

About that SP demo…
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/01/26/killzone-3-single-player-demo-coming-in-february/

* February 15th is the day that Killzone 3’s Single Player demo hits the PlayStation Store.

* PlayStation Plus members will be able to download the demo on February 8th!

There will be two separate downloads available from the PlayStation Store: one in 2D and one in 3D. Both versions will take place on the “Icy Incursion” level. Don’t worry – downloading the 3D version and playing it on your 2D TV won’t break anything … you’ll just see a message saying “No 3D TV detected.” The 2D version has splitscreen coop as well, a feature not available in the 3D demo.

Be mindful of which one you download.

*shrug* Eh… separate cutscenes due to size limit ?

Historic reason ? May be they did the 3D one first (to sell 3DTV). Then they create the 2D demo way after the 3D version is wrapped up, and don't feel like touching the 3D demo.

I honestly don't know. :p

Why would there be a separate download between 2D/3D :?: :???:

The 2D version has splitscreen coop as well, a feature not available in the 3D demo

That is the only difference it seems. And they mention that even you do download 3D demo, you can still run in 2D mode, so no issues. Why couldn't they put the co-op in the 3D Demo, and grey it out when playing in 3D? No Idea !

Wait a minute ! Is the 3D code so different from 2D one? Is that the reason that the game is 41 gbs? To complete game code in one! One version for 2D + co-op and one for 3D?

This is actually fairly common for 3D supporting games on PS3 I think, and they've said as much on a number of occasions.

What's so wrong with the code base that they need separate SKU/downloads. In the retail it should just be down to a separate executable or just a simple toggle in the menu.

It should be the same SKU. The demo downloads are different, that is all.

May also be an easy way to estimate how many PS3 folks have 3DTV.

That's what I mean. The retail is going to be one SKU, why is there some need to separate it for PSN? If they're so worried about people not knowing about the feature they could just have a screen on start-up that forces a user to choose between 2D/3D (along with "does the screen look ok"), and from there it's trivial to detect the number of users who used it or have a 3D setup. If they're concerned about people just toggling it for the hell of it and not actually playing it (or being unable), they can detect who switches back to 2D mode.

I never expected alpha heavy jungle in KZ deferred engine, this is close to what I imagined ;)
Well Killzone can have alpha particles filling the whole screen and blocking your view ands till run just fine (quarter rez sure...but still)...anyways I never expected the Helghan jungles to be full of foliage. :p
