[PS3] Killzone 2

You are only past halfway.
The later levels take a lot of time to complete.

Especially the next level you'll be playing from the one you are currently in.

I know, i know, late to the party, but i just have to say, i put the game in last night (after being a bit bored of it) and i got to the level where (AT LAST!) they get out of grey tunnels and go to some desert kind of place with strange structures... And well, even though i am still bored as hell with the game (i'm just not a shooter person, it's not the game, it's me...) this level looked unbelievable! Everything about it, but especially how the wind blows up the sand and the tiny little particles flowing with the wind. Left me totally breathless.
This game is so beautiful i just wished that more of it was in brighter environments like this one!
That's all.
Now i'm just getting into the game and i have a feeling that i've pretty much finished it (right?), which is not good at all, let me tell you.

Hey Dan,
Nice to see you back! If you intend to play this online, check by the B3d chatroom! I usually play MW2 lately, but keep an eye on the B3d chatroom and wouldn't mind jumping in for some online multiplayer on Helghan! BTW: Same goes for everyone else wanting to play with some teamwork. I've become tired of texting everyone on my friendslist to ask if they were up for some KZ2...

Cheers Phil

I wish I could go into KZ2 without any preconceived idea. I would be pleasantly surprised in quite a few areas. Was spoiled by early trailers.

london-boy, if you end up liking the multiplayer game (it's tough, especially if you don't like shooters), check out the Southern Hills and Beachhead maps. I  those 2 maps.

If you find the last battle boring, you're probably just bored with FPSes in general...at least war-based ones.

The colour pallette and the general intensity of the last level is just awesome ! Its as if all hell broke loose :D !
I think KZ2 has the best SP campaign in a long long time. The intensity is unmatched  !

Even I think that the SP is very very memorable...contrary to what most believe.
I think that the purposeful & intense battle sequences where you really play a considerably important role [instead of bullet spamming & waiting for the next set piece event to happen for advancing, something which most games do] are really what makes this game's SP amazing & stand out from other FPS games.

OK OK it's not THAT boring. I also find it a lot more interesting than the usual "walk, shoot, walk more, shoot more" kind of gameplay, even though it really is still like that. The atmosphere helps a whole lot making you feel like you're really there, and of course the graphics too, which i still have to get used to (it's just SO good!).

Finished it! Considering i don't like shooters, it was quite amazing.
In fact it's the only ever FPS i've finished, which is saying a lot. I bought but could never be bothered to finish Farcry, Doom3, Half Life 2, Black on PS2, and a couple others...
If anyone wants the game, let me know and i'll send it off, i don't need it anymore and it's way too much of a hassle to sell it...

Eh... if you want to venture online, you can find Phil (PSN: concepticus-US), JardeL, fearsomepirate and russo121 playing KZ2 multiplayer from time to time. ^_^

Srsly. Play online. It rules.

On a related note, I've been playing Killzone 1, mainly out of historical interest. I knew going it that it wasn't a great game, and it's not. The main thing I can't figure out is why the heck it runs so badly. After playing games like Timesplitters 3, Black, Project Snowblind on the PS2, all of which looked nice and ran smoothly, I can't figure out what Killzone is doing that makes it so inconsistent.

The weather station level in the original Killzone looked awesome !

It seems to have quite a high polygon count, as well as rudimentary death animation + physics. Also I think the AI puts quite a dent in the Emotion Engine. Try out MP with as many bots as possible and you'll find out lol. As for me, it's hard to play the game. The aiming controls suck tremendously, at least for me, and I do not really care for the weapon firing animations. They lack proper feel. KZ2 improved in these two areas very greatly, though the aiming felt a bit off still, and I want to use a KB and a mouse  Sony should be more supportive of the fact that the PS3 is more-so the "customizable system" than the 360 as far as user interfaces go. Back on topic, the game is a bit too Call of Duty-ish in the gameplay department, but the weapon/character/mechanical design is topnotch, I absolutely love the weapons. It's just too bad I can't get it on PC. Maybe Sony should publish non-MMO PC games using OpenGL with both Windows and Linux support?;)

Other PS2 games have lots of polygons count and ragdoll without running as poorly as Killzone did. I suspect it has something to do with the LOD (NPC models are unnecessarily detailed), and you're probably right about the AI. Whatever they're doing is probably a little too complex for the EE. But also, it was GG's first and only PS2 game.

I was always of the impression that KillZone would have been a brilliant game and technical achievement but was somewhat limited by the PS2. The game was far too late in the life cycle and Guerrilla wanted to push things a lot further than what was currently possible.

This makes me appreciate KZ2 even more so - it's a game that really delivered IMO, not only running smooth most of the time, but pushing bounderies in many aspects (scope, amount of action, effects, AI etc). I really can't wait to see what they will do with KZ3, though I probably don't expect them to be able to lift much anymore as KZ2 is already quite an achievement. Maybe on the next consoles someday...

(sorry, still very much out of the loop) Has KZ3 been announced? Will it be on PS3? They should have an easy job now that at least they have all the tech and the enging implemented. I'd love them to develop on the utter beauty that was the desert level on KZ2 and have more open areas like that.

 Okay, I checked my friends list again. It's concepticon-US, as in Decepticons in Transformers. v_v

From time to time? 8) I'm playing everyday and I'm very happy because 2 days ago my ranking is under 10000 overall! - To me is very, very good! (don't forget I smashed a controller).

Argh, you can't expect me to observe you 24/7 ! >_<

From my perspective, depending on when I sign on, I may catch you online sometimes. And now that you mention it, yes everytime I saw you, you were playing KZ2.
