[PS3] Killzone 2

It depends on your play-style. The maps are very complex. Once you know your way around, you can hide in relatively safe corners and pick people off, or smack them down in the open. If you level up enough, you can use additional tools (e.g., Sentry gun, air-bots, C4s) to increase your kills.

For me, I didn't like those gimmicks and just tagged behind comrades (I wanna be a Saboteur or Scout). I love it because when the enemies are overrun, you can hear them yell "WTF ! They are everywhere !!".

I tried the update and enabled the High Precision Shooting in the Options (did you, Patsu?) and I must say ... great! I basically needed no time to adjust, feels very natural. I think it was better with this almost immediately. I was also worried that I'd have trouble getting back into the game after not having played for quite a while now (basically since I got Guitar Hero World Tour ;) ), but even with the new controls I felt I was as good as ever before.

Too bad my PS3 laser died before this patch, would've liked to try it out. Maybe I'll manage to fix the laser next week...

The aiming has been drastically improved.

The worst thing regarding Killzone 2's control scheme were the awful deadzones.
They are gone now, so it's much, much easier to aim.

I didn't see much difference in light machine guns, but the new control scheme works _extremely_ well with the default M82 rifle. I switched to Medic class now (Good bye LMGs !).

EDIT: Ostepop, what time are you playing these days ?

Really wish I had proper capture equipment, the Flash and Thunder maps look excellent;hell, they're even marginally better looking than any of the levels from KZ2's SP. I can only imagine how much more incredible these environments would be if they were in the campaign.
Beach Head looks awesome, but the Southern Hills map is wicked, especially after a nuclear strike. So awesome. Cant talk about the gameplay much, I've just been screwing around with the bots.
EDIT:
Anyone with the new maps have capture equipment?
If so, would you be willing to get some decent screenshots of Southern Hills and Beachead?
Both environments have the best graphics of any console fps game.

Ya, Guerilla had said that they were working on the most beautiful content they have ever created ! So, it wasn't all hype ;) ! I want Direct feed screens and vids:yes: !

I get to try the new pack today.

Beach head is confusing when there are many people playing. It's because the rain, fog and smoke keep blowing into my face. :) The snipers must be having fun when enemies far away fade in and out of their sight. Eventually, I quit the match and scout around the map alone to figure out the layout. I think the map requires group work because there are quite a few cross fire zones. Reminds me of beach landing in Saving Private Ryan.

Southern Hill is the more wicked map. There're lot's of vertical fights because of the multi-storey "open" building in the center. The airbots (deployed by opposing team) are rampant here to force people on the ceiling down. The nuclear explosion will wipe out the level once in a while to reset the status quo, which is nice. If you're hiding in the appropriate places, you can survive through the blast.

And yes, both maps look not just great, but alive with the weather effects. But I'm not a visual person... so the level design intrigues me more (much more).

EDIT: In one of my playthroughs, there is always a 5 second pause when I tried to climb to the highest levels in Southern Hill. It seems fine for other sessions. Not sure what's going on.

Hey Ostepop, thanks for helping out in the Beach Head. That map is somewhat unbalanced. I think the Helghast has the advantage because we hold the high ground and the gun tower. But my side still lost out until you came :). I also got my Scout medal today (Finally !).

Thanks for the game(s).

I got to tell you, switching from KZ2 to CoD4 is a lot more difficult than the other way around! First time i loaded up CoD4 today, it was painful. My KD ratio was below 1,and everything went to fast! I got used to it after a while, (not totally used to it
(takes a while to get used to maximum sensitivty cod4 from 80% KZ2) )
. Going back to KZ2 with "high precision mode" was relatively easy, everything just moved slower, aiming behaved very alike now, and 100% sens is like 40-50% sens @ cod4.

I think you are correct, helgan position is better. I had only played 2 minutes of ISA(humans?!) before stating that comment. Its easier to defend the base as human, but other than that they are much worse of. The wind effects seem to disfavor humans, blowing a lot of dirt infront of a good portion of the usual defensive positions. making it harder to snipe.

Helgan high ground is a big advantage. It gives you direct view to most opposing sniper spots, also ISA search and destroy objectives. With spot and mark, i stood there an entire match, getting 4.0 Kill\death ratio and about 50 kills. The game was rather laggy thought, but i think its my girlfriends line (16 is fine, 32 is to much)

Yap ! That's why I commented about smoke and rain blowing into my face in one of my posts above. The level is nice though.

I think the map is very suitable for all classes. I played Saboteur, Medic, bazooka guy, and also picked up your left-over sniper rifle. :p They are all fun.

I wouldn't be surprised. I had a hard time going back to R1 too if I stopped playing for 2 weeks. Those fast paced games require build up time.

(yes you should go to work.)

PS: what is a good\CHEAP headset for PS3?

There is a GAF thread on PS3 headset recommendation. Let's see if I can find it.

Also, I have switched clan to GAF. They finally cleared enough space to add me and a couple of others. All the GAF regions are collapsed into one clan now. They also created a XMB Chatroom for it. At least the room is getting some use when I checked this afternoon.

Finally, I came across this while surfing for other stuff:
http://boardsus.playstation.com/pla...?board.id=killzone2&message.id=351802#M351802

It's a Killzone iPhone app.

Alright, I'm really fucking annoyed at the moment. :devilish:

Why is it, that in some games - oddly, the ones that are the most gruesome and you somehow rise above them to reach excellence - that the game just doesn't count them?

I started a game last night at just before 23:55 (GMT+2) - 4 vs 4. The game had just started, so I probably missed on the first round of a 7 mission game. We were all 2nd highest rank, 3 on my team against a clan consisting of 4 players. They were well organised so we didn't have much chance on completing the missions (they were spawn camping). Yet, I stayed with the game and finished with more kills than anyone else and less deaths (2.5 K/D). On top of that, I got a few ribbons that I've been desperately trying to build up on lately...

Once the game was finished and we had moved on to the next round, I quit the game (I never quit too early in fear some stats won't be counted) and made my way to the "Friends Ranking" screen to check my stats. I waited for 20 minutes and the stupid stats nor my ribbons were counted.

Finally gave up, went to bed and checked again this morning. The stats aren't there! How hard can it be??? *WUAAAAHHHHGRRRRRRR* (*phil starts pulling his hair out*)

Even if it's just one game, this annoys the hell out of me. This isn't the first time and it's already hard enough getting some of the ribbons.

:devilish: :devilish:

I hate that as well. Warhawk was awful in the early days with all my bad games counting and the good ones not. Plus ranks and medals are even harder than KZ.

I have another annoyance to add - the kill count in the leader board during the game is very misleading. If you do lots of headshots (and you have the headshot medal), you'll get effectively 2 points which are displayed as 2 kills in that screen - however, the real statistics don't count these as 2 kills, but only as 1. So even if you think you're having great K/D ratios during the game, in the realworld it's probably a bit less. This also includes shooting down enemy bots etc (all counted as a kill as well - but not in the main statistics).

Also, as per my last post with my anger being directed towards games not counted - that game that didn't show up yesterday? Never showed up. Even on the killzone.com site, I can't view any logs of that match. Having played another longer session last night, I'm now thinking that the first game is never counted - or perhaps you have to join a game from the beginning to rack up the points?

Apart from that though, I have nothing but praise for this game. I played RFOM extensively, played a lot of CoD5 and even if CoD is hard to beat when it comes to feel and gameplay - KillZone2 really stands on its own and I enjoy the multiplayer a lot more due to the deep gameplay. Unlocking classes, using airbots, setting up turrets, placing spawn points, disguised enemies, being medics... it's great! This puts it above all the other shooters in my books and really gives a strategic element.

With the latest tweaks in controls, the game is so much more responsive and IMO perfect. Also, the slightly dumbed down Assault class, weaker turrets and especially the stronger airbots - it now really requires a lot of teamwork and strategic thinking to gain an advantage over another team. I still think the airbots are perhaps too strong so it really requires a mechanic to place his turrets to bring them down (because shooting them down with the rifle will get you certainly killed by others in the mean time).

Playing with friends is much less flawless now too. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better already.

I really hope they keep the levels and add-ons coming for this game so that it stays alive for a long time. This is just too much fun to stop playing. :D

BTW: Nice that you were able to join Arwin! Sorry about my lack of headset. Tried looking for it in the hectic battle, but when I did, I noticed the batteries were down. :(

I also think the first game doesn't count in your statistics if you weren't there from the beginning.

And yeah, the game is nigh on perfect now. For some reason though I like the Uncharted multiplayer even more, but now that that's over, Killzone 2 will definitely return (or has returned actually ;) ) as my main online shooter fix.

I also think the first game doesn't count in your statistics if you weren't there from the beginning.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same too - which to be honest, I find very annoying, given that you are still presented with ribbons or medals that you win during that game, even if they aren't effectively awarded in the end (due to the first game not being counted if this proves to be true).

I also find it very annoying, because that's a lot of time and effort spent on a game. Last nights first game was a game that lasted for nearly an hour. Why should anyone attempt to play if they aren't counted?

It's also somewhat unlogical to do this - if I join a game 5 minutes before it ends, chances are, I hardly made any kills, hardly got any ribbons and even if I'm on the team that wins, the few points that I will have made are only multiplied by a factor of 1.5. So instead of maybe 5 points, I'll get 7.5.

I really hope this is a bug of some sort, though given how many updates there already were, something like this just shouldn't be happening.

Either have customized games that work - or have it RFOM style where ranked games can only be played from the beginning and need to be from start to finish to get any points...

But if it were like RFOM then I couldn't join you mid-game and would always have to wait until the full campaign is over, if someone drops out you can't rebalance it by bringing someone in, etc. It's tricky.

Maybe they can find a way to update only certain stats. I think the advantage is that you can't just go drop in and out of certain games to get certain stats you want and then leave. I don't know.
