[PS3] Killzone 2

I'm sorry. I thought I clarified at the end of my post when I said I had issue with the aiming model.

Single player was fun, but after one or two plays I was pretty much done with it. I tried playing multi but it seemed not fun, and the unconventional aiming model started to deteriorate my skill at COD4, so I decided to trade it.

You really should give RE5 a try. I thought not being able to move and shoot at the same time was weird too, but as your weapons get more powerful its much less of an issue. Dead Space and RE5 look similar but play very differently. I dont even consider RE5 a shooter.

I disagree, RE5 is a shooter / action game first, survival horror second. This isn't the thread to discuss that though, so I'll take it over to the RE5 thread. :)

BTW i'm on the last part of the Palace level, and I seem to have a problem with the checkpoints. I got the one where you have to run up the stairs and take over the 2nd floor balcony, but after that there doesn't seem to be any more checkpoints.

Which means if you die in one of the waves of enemies (or a stray grenade or Radec shooting your flank while taking cover), you have to restart the whole section again.

Is there a checkpoint?

The doors opening to the second floor is one checkpoint, the start of the Radec fight is the next I think.

PS: And the friendly AI is rather poor, I remember on the Salamun Bridge level, it kept standing out in the open and getting shot, forcing me to run out of cover and revive him and get back without dying, and often he would just again fail to take cover and get downed again, causing me to repeat the process.
I don't like it when the actions of the friendly AI increases the risk of you dying yourself, they should be more like Gears' AI, where they can revive each other so you don't have to run around reviving everyone (eg. the end of Visari Square).

Just like in Gears, you can just ignore them, they will pop up at the next check point, the game doesn't force you to heal them.

Only the Store was down: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/03/19/playstation-store-status-update/

We’re aware that some of you may be experiencing difficulty accessing the PlayStation Store at this time. We have a dedicated team working on it now and will let you know as soon as things are back to normal for everyone, both here and on the PlayStation Twitter account. We thank you for your patience, and hope to have the Store up for everyone shortly.

UPDATE: The engineers have finished their maintenance, and applying the final tweaks. The Store should be functioning now as normal. Thanks again for your patience.

I have been downloading TV episodes off and on for the past few days. There was a short period of downtime today. I was able to login to PSN but PS Store was a little unstable.

Went to play KZ2 last night and my disk just grinds inthe drive. Neither LBP nor CivRev had problems loading. No damage to the disk either as I keep perfect care of disks, from case to drive to case and nothing else. I've never experienced spontaneous disk failure before. :( Of course, I have to try it in another PS3 first to be sure.

Enjoyed the single player game, except when the final battle became too hard for me and had to switch to the lowest difficulty to finish. I think the description of the difficulty levels shown in the game doesn't give the right impression about how hard it can get.

KZ2 multiplayer is horribly broken right now. I just played couple of rounds today and I'll have to said it was nothing more then rocket/grenade fest. I had this guy who ran in front of me and shot the ground with his rocket. It killed me and 3 others to go along with his own death.

Generally having a good time online and just reached the medic level (sergeant something). May be I shouldn't be too happy that I can't search for games with low rank players after leveling up?

Indeed, you're in for a whole world of hurt now! Consider hosting your own games to filter out unwanted weapons and classes.

Arrgh, getting past the second part of Autarch Sanctum where you have to hold out on the second floor is so frustrating.

The are too many enemy waves, which means even if you make a small mistake you die.

And the friendly AI isn't very helpful, once I had got to the rocketeer wave, and ran back to the ammo rack to switch my flamethrower for the sniper, only to get stuck when I tried to run back, cause he was blocking my way. Then we were both killed by a rocket (which seem to kill you around corners as well).

I'm just at that final battle now (just before reaching the second floor) and I'm not looking forward to the rest ... it's been pretty challenging, but so far just right for me.

I'm also just behind you in the online multiplayer. I've really enjoyed it so far though, just started playing with the shotgun and getting the hang of it. I'm starting to get into games that are a fair bit harder though, and I've also had some lag issues yesterday for the first time, as well as two connection errors. That's made me realise how smooth the online has been so far though.

I really, really like Killzone multiplayer though, the physicality of it is just really awesome. I've had a bunch of dreams about it tonight, which is the first time that's happened to me with any first person shooter ... It also made me think that if any developer should do a star wars game, it should be Guerilla with this engine, would be absolutely fantastic. Their weakest point is still the narrative I think, so if they could borrow a really nice one with some great characters ... My dream ended up in a smooth transition from a Killzone style universe but where the (indigenous, but on a slightly greener planet) Helghast were helping the ISA (us) against a greater enemy, into a part where I got shot with some kind of beam weapon through my gut, realising I was now Han Solo at the beginning of a new adventure.

Try " pistol only " or rocket disabled servers ...

Meh, unlock the M4 pistol instead. The revolver is so powerful that it makes the shotgun obsolete.

I haven't jumped back in yet. I'd consider this a blunder if both Sony and GG did not foresee the impact of missing party management, and balancing.

This is the time for Insomniac to launch their patch to remind people how awesome their multiplayer modes are. :p

The lower rank levels are addicting and fun. The more advanced classes are interesting but they can stack together and mess up the game -- especially if you are outclassed.

What are the official forums like on this matter? Is there much criticism, or are the majority of KZ2 players enjoying it?

I'm still low enough rank not to run into these imbalances, I'm just getting tired of speed. There is no tactical elements, it's spawn, die, spawn, die... Grenade spamming, too many people in too little space. I need something slower, maybe SOCOM.

Yeah, Socom should be alright. The only thing is I was always the first one out. :devilish:

I will give MGO a go too after the patch. Then the R2 and KZ2 patches :)

I think the buddy AI gets worse as you progress through the game, which might have been GG's intention. Garza isn't half bad at the start of the game, while Rico is pretty much useless. But then again, if you were expecting any sort of intelligent behaviour from Rico, you haven't been following the story very well.

I did notice that Garza seemed more helpful, but couldn't decide if it's me or the designers really dumb Rico down. It could also be the gradual increase in enemy difficulty.

I have definitely seen quite a few posts on Rico's incompetence in the balcony.

While I agree that grenade spamming happens in places, I've never yet been in a situation where I couldn't get past that. There are quite a few routes around the maps, and the first thing I always do is try to find routes that others aren't taking 'en masse'. So far, that's worked, and there's always interesting strategic places to take up. I can imagine though that this gets less so at higher levels though, especially with rocket launchers in the mix. I think there should be a rule in general that only a few people can get rocket launchers. Another interesting way to deal with this is to make the amount of ammo for any given weapon type on any side limited for the duration of the online match, so that eventually you can't respawn with the ammo you wanted once that supply has been depleted. Is there any game that uses this idea?

Started playing KZ2 MP on the weekend. I like it a lot. :) Didn't find any particular flaws with it yet - except for the lacking party functionality and being able to play with friends relatively easy. Apart from that though, I think I'll be spending a lot of time with it.
